I agree that it can work, but it's used so much in superhero comics that it just becomes a cliche. The problem is that you know that the original person is always going to come back and reclaim their mask, so having someone else take over is usually just a lazy way to not end a comic series while the main character is temporarily dead.

It can work, like when Batman had his back broken by Bane and he had Azrael take over his mantel to keep the symbol alive, then had to take Azrael down himself when he was out of control. I just generally think it's a lazy way for writers to temporarily kill off a key character while still publishing his monthly book.

I also think that, if they do the Civil War arc for the third Captain America, Peter Parker revealing his identity is that much more powerful because of how long he's managed to keep it a secret and how long we've been associated with the character of Peter Parker. It wouldn't be the same with Morales, who would just be a random guy only a portion of the audience would even recognize.

It would be new in comic book movies though. Everyone has taken the James Bond approach in that the previous actor never existed, so doing this kind of story would be a great way to extend a character/brand without forcing an actor to play a role forever.

I agree that way more people know Peter Parker though, and that's why I ultimately think they will go that route. Sony will want the more recognizable character going forward.

The problem is that, if you don't show Spider-Man die, it kind of negates the impact of replacing him. People will just wonder why Spidey is a black guy now.

Well, all of this is going to be affected by the upcoming Secret Wars event that changes the Marvel multi-verse to a uni-verse. No idea what that will have on their resident backgrounds and history.

Dear God...

Also seems likely that Marvel Studios does Miles as Spider-Man, and Sony does Peter as theirs. Would allow both studios to run a Spider-Man series.

Great point... didn't realize this. But I thought Sony and Marvel had come to terms to share the character entirely and that Sony has completely scrapped the Amazing Spider-Man?

My understanding is that Marvel will develop the movie and share the rights and profit with Sony, but that there would be essentially one Spider-Man, not two, as we have with Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

Mr Morales has different powers then Peter. In addition to most of the things that Mr Parker can do, he also has a camouflage ability to blend in and be rather difficult to find. Plus, has a venom sting that can temporarily paralyze opponents. He is also teenage throughout his entire run so far. But, doesn't attend a regular high school.

It'd be interesting to see if they include those powers. I think they might just go with Morales the person but with Parker's powers (slightly adjusted).

I have read pretty much everything that has come out. Like Jack, I consider Peter Benjamin Parker to be the one true Spider-Man.

Don't get me wrong, so do I. As I said, Peter Parker, the man, along with Spider-Man, are my favorite characters in comic books. I identified with Peter for a lot of reasons, but more with his adult / college / married self rather than the high school 1960's version.

But, I have to admit that I have enjoyed the Ultimate Spider-Man issues with Morales in them. I just consider him to be some other hero. Jack, I suspect you'd have absolutely hated the concept they recently ran with for over two years with Otto Octavius's brain patterns imprinted over Peter's. Two years of Doc Ock in the body of Peter Parker as the "Superior Spider-Man."

Indeed!

Anyways, I really hope they retain some of the Ultimate characters that are attached to Miles. Not sure where they end up with their scrambling of things. But, some of these characters are bright spots to me. Oh well, just have to see what happens.

Agreed. I'm interested to see the new stories on the big screen, and that's coming from someone who generally dislikes modern comics and most of the Ultimate storylines.

Yeah, I think the whole point of the arrangement was to have the character appear in Marvel's movies to get it associated with something of quality. Sony doesn't want to have to launch their own version of the character because they basically have admitted that they have no idea what they are doing.

And as far as I recall, Sony gets nothing from the Marvel movies that spidey is in and Marvel gets nothing from the Sony movies he is in. Marvel just wanted to be able to use their most well known character again and Sony wanted to get him back on his feet.

Sooo, we're gonna see uncle Ben get killed again. So brutal.

Maybe not start with a 30 minute origin story? If its a reboot, start with him as spidey then use flashbacks to fill in his origin. The decision to start/reboot with a high-school Spiderman is confusing because Civil War comes out before the solo Spiderman movie. They can't possibly waste time to include Spidey's origins and still have time to properly setup the plot of the movie right?

Regarding Peter Parker and Miles Morales, I would prefer Peter because looking at the timeline for the Marvel Cinematic universe, all of their solo acts and team movies (phase 2 and 3) are already getting in the darker and more serious storylines, IMO an older and more established Spiderman fits better in this current timeline. Let Sony do the Miles Morales version (which I am a fan of) and they can stick to the family-friendly tones that brought them a lot of success in the first place.

Last but not the least, maybe put the Goblins in the shelf, they dont seem to get them right. If we're talking about Spiderman villains, I've always been intruiged with Kraven, Venom is an obvious choice but he's a more fitting choice in building up excitement for upcoming sequels.

i wonder how many pages of this thread is dedicated to marvel

By Marvel are you talking Marvel comics or Marvel's Captain Marvel or DC's SHAZAM!!! Captain Marvel ?

And why is there no talks of a HeMan reboot?

Was Archie and Veronica Marvel? Been hoping for a reboot of that one for a while now.

anyone here Sony plans to do ANOTHER Ghostbusters at the same time the all-female cast one? This time with Tatum/Pratt and the directors of the Jump Street series (those are actually funny as hell)? They want to do 2 different films so its all in the same realm and then do a crossover. Everyone and their mom wants to copy Marvel, this is sickening. Leave those classic comedies along and cancel both products or if you have to redo it, just combine films with the males and females. These were about the jokes, it wasn't about people fighting "realistic" paranormal shit.

Saw Grand Budapest Hotel. Good movie, comedic - almost in a Quentin way. They paid close attention to the sets to make them humorous. A solid 8, maybe a 9...
