This might not be a popular opinion, but as Scarface keeps playing on Spike TV, I can't stop thinking, "Man, this movie is terrible!"

I dislike this opinion.

Rebengaaaaaaa!!!

Stations of the Cross. 9/10

Saw this at the CIFF and it stuck with me longer than the others.

German film starring an amazing young actress named Lea van Acken. It's a story about a young, extremely devout Catholic girl and how she tries to sacrifice everything for God. The story is technically impressive in that it features 14 long continuous shot segments, each representing a "station of the cross":
  1. Jesus is condemned to death
  2. Jesus carries his cross
  3. Jesus falls the first time
  4. Jesus meets his mother
  5. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the cross
  6. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus
  7. Jesus falls the second time
  8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem
  9. Jesus falls the third time
  10. Jesus is stripped of his garments
  11. Crucifixion: Jesus is nailed to the cross
  12. Jesus dies on the cross
  13. Jesus is taken down from the cross (Deposition or Lamentation)
  14. Jesus is laid in the tomb.

Though very religious in tone, the director's motives for the film are not obvious. It's apparent that this girl is going too far in her beliefs, but the discipline and dedication to sacrifice is remarkable. Could be a condemnation on evangelical belief, but also a study on how powerful someone's faith can really be.

Finally saw Gone Girl.

I thought this had potential, but in the end, it was just too drawn out. I also didn't like how there wasn't any closure at the end.

Just watched Interstellar again...

Shame this movie wasn't even nominated for an Academy Award.

If the Oscar voters were not even able to understand Inception do you really expect them to understand Interstellar?

Pacino has been playing the exact same character for a long time, and overacting to boot. Not a fan of his stuff generally, though he was great as Michael Corleone.

Good to see they use miley cyrus to inspire Jared letos joker. Can embed on phone easily but it's a nice take that will distance it from ledgers masterpiece

This is a Frank Miller version of the Joker, all tatted up, kinda prison hardened, and more of a criminal than anything else.

This Joker is also not that great... probably my least favorite... This Joker really lacks vision, he's not the same character really.

So with that, the Leto version for Suicide Squad looks horrible. The really expositional tattoos on Leto's body, the silver caps, even his makeup looks all wrong. The "damaged" tattoo over on his forehead is just plain awful.

This seems like yet another director trying to reimagine the comic books and make these characters more theirs than ours. It's unfortunate...

I think the only directors who actually pulled this off successfully were Donner, Burton and Nolan. I think everyone else who has gone this far off the beaten path has generally failed.

We'll see, but I think this movie will be terrible.

The Gambler sucked.

Plus, it didn't even have Kenny Rogers in it.

Age of ultron: 9/10

Just got back from it. Will stay away from spoilers etc.. All I will say is the stark genesis of ultron is motivated by the need to tie it in with the infity war arch. So its more palatable than expected. Vision is way done and used well in my opinion. There are some cheesy aspects as to be expected. The twins are well cast and developed and there's compulsory human interest along the way in terms of romance. Too much hawkeye IMHO. Hopefully you will all like it. I plan on seeing it again next week

Have been away for a few days at a family event, but I have been really surprised about the immense negative reaction to this.

I'm glad they are trying something different. We got campy Joker with Jack, gritty Joker with Ledger, and now we have hip-hop/alt/drug addled Joker with Leto.

I'll admit I was hesitant with Ledger's joker before seeing it.. Admittedly.. I was pleasantly surprised.

But with this, I just can't see where it's going to go while still maintaining the character that is Joker.

Jack's Joker was the quintessential Joker that we all knew. He was played perfectly. I thought he had the absolutely perfect blend of insanity and criminality.

Ledger's joker was also great, and this time being a truly unique take on the character. There was some obvious references to The Killing Joke version of Joker, as in, the sheer insanity, brutality, and willingness to kill (or worse) innocent people indiscriminately just to prove a point. This Joker was very much like Alan Moore's interpretation, just physically looking much more like what he was on the inside - a fucked up human being.

But still, Ledger kept the portrayal within the confines of what makes Joker such a great character. You really felt like "this is the Joker."

And let's not forget Mark Hamil's Joker, which is probably the most recognized among fans. Hamil and the DC animation studios basically define the modern-era Joker.

All in all though, I'm just trying to conceptualize how Leto's Joker will fit in to all of this. Again, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm just not getting the vision of this Joker at all... "Damaged" and "hahaha" being tattooed on his body, for me, don't bode well. It almost seems like someone is desperately trying to portray themselves as being psychotic rather than simply being psychotic. I guess this would be the "emo" Joker?
