For the people who liked Bad Grandpa...

I didn't find the Grandpa skits in the Jackass movies to be all that funny. I thought those were actually some of the weakest of the bunch. Would you agree with that assessment, or does that mean I probably won't like this movie?

I saw Gravity in 3D on Thursday and thought it was pretty bad. I couldn't wait to get out of the theater and was checking my phone halfway through (there were 2 other people in the theater so I am allowed). I heard it described as a "gripper," best picture candidate, and intense start to finish. At no point did I feel like gripping my seat or deeply involved in the action. Maybe I went in with too high of expectations.

3.5/10

i dont think bad grandpa was all that great. there were a couple lines during improv that were funny and 2-3 of the set ups were funny, but I think its more nostalgia, turn of the century mtv, and watching Johnny Knoxville all grown up and implementing what he does into having actual story line, than it was hilarious

Bad Grandpa is nothing like Jackass in the traditional sense. Jackass was just a hodgepodge of random skits with no plot.

Bad Grandpa actually has a plot, and the skits are intertwined with it. I thought it was hilarious. Unfortunately I can't remember much of the funny shit... maybe it's because I'm old, or improv isn't easy to remember.

I do remember crying because I was laughing so hard though.

Thor - 7/10

Had some decent "chuckle" scenes in there with Loki throwing in some side comments. Overall a pretty good movie b/c I didn't read the comics so how everything is falling into place with all the Marvel movies is kind of cool to me. (especially like how they do the bonus scenes at the end of the movies)

Good action, not too over the top with the explosions. Hated the new "intern-intern" guy. Pointless in my eyes.

Read somewhere the Marvel guys have plans all the way up to end in 2021. So hopefully they don't blow it.

I rarely see movies in theaters. Next will probably be:

1) Anchorman 2
2) The Wolf of Wall Street (real excited for this movie)
3) The Hobbit

I loled at bad grAndpa quite a bit but I have a somewhat sophomoric sense of humor sometimes. When he said try this on for size and took that epic shit on the wall in the diner I lost it.

The Thor Movie that Dave wants to see:

super hot. how many bjs in this one?

Watched Man of Steel. Enjoyed it. Basically The Avengers without a sense of humor.

Movie recommendations --
I was able to make it through the work week without missing a day. I'm fully embracing my sickness this weekend.
Give me your best suggestions.

I'd hate to think my weekend is filled with watching Dexter.

Go!

Watched about an hour of Guilt Trip the other day (red box screwed me). Really enjoyed the movie. I'd recommend it. 7.5/10 for the hour I watched.

JFK was excellent. Started Friday and finished Saturday.

I hate the word epic, because it's over-used, but that's the only way to describe that cast.

If you like JFK, you'll love Nixon... Easily Stone's best work, as it's not a conspiracy based movie, but a historical biographical movie that takes a very interesting creative/artistic take (same as Malcom X for instance).

Anthony Hopkins is my favorite actor, and the guy has Dick Nixon down to a "T." It's a very good, and fairly historically accurate portrayal of Nixon's life; although all the scenes of Nixon's childhood are viewed as Nixon remembers them (an idyllic world with his Mother at the center, capitalization intended).

The film also has very nuanced references to things that there are entire books written about, including the Kennedy Assassination, and Haig's "idea" that Nixon could use the Army to stay in power to prevent impeachment/removal. People think that this was just Oliver Stone being overly dramatic, but it wasn't. Anthony Summers, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist reported on just that very "idea" in the 1970's and again in the 80's.

Nixon is easily a 10/10. The film is very much done in the style of a modern-day Citizen Kane.

No one plays a better sweaty over-weight slimy lawyer better than John Candy.

Funny. The Candy scene was one of my favorites, if not favorite.

Makes me sad because that scene made it clear that he had cross-over talent (as did P,T & As) and could easily have handled parts with non-comedic aspects to them. Had he not died, it's very obvious he could have had a career with parts just as diverse as Jim Carrey once he broke through the comedic "barrier."

Gouri, I will watch Nixon. Hell, I got interested in JFK because of you and Damage.
