the Knicks have had a pretty significant turnaround thi syear, wether its because of Isiah or not, who knows, i think with the play of some of there younger players, and a year of working together, improvement was something that was going to happen pretty muuch regardless.

NEW YORK -- Isiah Thomas has shown enough "evident progress" to earn a multiyear contract extension, several New York-area newspapers reported Monday.

Thomas
The New York Times, citing a person "briefed on the matter," says Thomas will sign the new deal to remain both team president and head coach on Monday. The Knicks are 29-34, but are in the hunt for their first playoff berth since 2004.

The Knicks won 23 games last year under Larry Brown, who was later fired.

A spokesman for Madison Square Garden said that Knicks owner James Dolan will meet with reporters on Monday morning. He is expected to announce Thomas' extension during that meeting.

No terms of Thomas' reported extention were cited. He is the Knicks' fifth head coach since Jeff van Gundy resigned in Dec. 2001.

The Knicks are going to the playoffs bay-bee!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict the Knicks will be regretting this decision...

Well, they have to still be paying out Larry's contract, wasnt his buyout in the $30-35 Million range? That was such a stupid move, paid him that much to just leave, when you could have put Paul Silas in there and they would have won at least 30 games.

I back Isiah. I think he has always had the ability to analyze talent, and get the most from his players. From a GM standpoint, he definitely over values talent over fit though. Plus, that jared jeffries signing was weak, especially when he drafted Balkman, a better version of Jeffries, w/o the IU ties. Even still, they have Malik Rose's contract coming off soon, and have quite a few intriguing talents. Even the Curry trade has evolved into being a decent deal. It will be interesting to see if Isiah can take them from average to good in the next year or two.

Horrible decision.

Highly, highly doubtful.

It is the East, that #7 and #8 spot are anyones for the taking, almost every year. They have good young stars in David Lee and Frye, anything is really possible.

Yeah. Their young core of Frye, Lee and Fat Eddy could get good down the stretch, it's too bad the Francis buyout wasn't successful. I can see that core getting good with just one talented cancer (Marbury) dragging them down, but with 2 (Francis), they're doomed to hover around 6th- 8th seed for the foreseeable future. I hate it too, becuase I like the Knicks.

I wish Isiah was gone.

I still remember the double OT All Star game he played Z only 4 minutes or something along the lines.

They have pieces to move if a trade comes around too. Other then the core you mentioned, Curry, Lee, Frye, and Marbury, they have Crawford, Q, Nate Robinson, Francis, and Malik Rose's soon to be expiring contract. You can't tell me that if they were able to pull off a sign and trade w/ Rashard Lewis (who has listed the Knicks as a possibility) that they wouldn't be at least mentioned as favorites to win the Atlantic next year. Sure they would be terrible defensively, but so is every team in the Atlantic right now.
