Reporter, Cameraman Shot While On-Air

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Suicidal gunman walks into a bar.......

Suicidal gunman walks into a bar full of badasses with guns.....

Too soon?

You get the picture. But you will never admit it.

What good does that do? If the gunman is already suicidal, how is threatening to take his life a deterrent?

I saw a stat that the FBI says 5 times as many people died in 2014 from knives than from guns. Is that true?

Also, I feel it needs to be stated in every one of these gun control debates...

But the Second Amendment was adopted (1791) when the most advanced weapon at the time could fire a maximum of 2-3 shots per minute.

Guns change. Laws should change.

Actually, it's not laws you need to change. It's the Constitution. Have at it!

I think what really needs to be established is whether or not we respect an individual's right to own a firearm.

Owning a firearm is not a privilege handed down by the state, but a civil right, recognized and protected by the Constitution.

If we disagree on this point, I think it's fair to state it openly rather than avoiding the issue of surrendering liberties.

I will state it openly. I don't think it should be a civil right protected by the Constitution. That's my stance.

Totally off topic, but I loathe shitty bar graphs like this.

So we have a gun murder rate of .0037% as opposed to, say, .0006%. At the same time, we're referring to gun murder rate, not murder rate.

Honest question: if we were to ban guns tomorrow and wipe out all guns, legal and illegal, how much would the actual murder rate decline? It doesn't go to 0, and America's diverse racial, economic, and social groups create challenges unique to this country no other in the world had to deal with. No matter what the gun laws, we will have a relatively high violent crime rate in the world for dozens of other much more difficult to talk about reasons.

Gun violence is usually a symptom of many other problems. Eliminating the gun doesn't necessarily eliminate the violence. This asshole for instance seemed pretty intent to take those lives by whatever means necessary. So many of our heavily debated political topics are just easy ways to cope with deeper issues.

This is a good example of where gun control is needed. A triple stabbing would of made much better television. The guy should of consulted OJ first.A stick of dynamite and he could of went out with a real bang.Although uploading his video would of been an issue. unless he set up a timer and set up the zoom correctly.

Within 2 days he decided to do this, bought the gun, and killed the people. If he didn't have such easy access to a gun, those people would be alive tonight. if he has to go through training and licensing to get a gun, he probably doesn't even bother. If he had to use some other weapon besides a gun, he probably doesn't even do it, and even if he tried, they have a much better chance at surviving.

Nobody suggests that the murder rate would go to zero, only that it could decline. As could suicide rates and gun related accidental death rates. We don't expect traffic fatalities to get to zero, that doesn't mean we don't continue to make car safer.

I'm just going to wade in right now, make a blanket statement and then duck and cover. Its not particularly pertaining to this case, although a 7 day period from purchase to receiving a gun is surely a good thing anyone who needs a gun 'right now' is probably going to end up doing something they regret/should be talking to the police.

I understand the right to have guns is constitutional, the bit i dont get is where it says what type of weapons. If it was limited to firearms which had a maximum of 6 shots before reloading, surely that would be marginally safer but still uphold the rights desired?

The Right Honorable @Adam, using logic, or subscribing to any species of rationality, will get you nowhere when debating firearms policy in the United States.

For many, firearms are holy and revered as much as saintly relics. Faith cannot be undermined by reason. You know what they say about debating religion at the dinner table....

Theoretically, what happens if all gun purchases were made illegal tomorrow.

Obviously you have a bunch of stores that are fucked with a bunch of stock they can't sell.

But consider all other results. What's the US like at that point?

Don't ban all the guns. Just go back to the barrel-loading muskets that were the norm when the constitution was written.

Discontinue all other guns for public sale.

Imagine having to carry one of those big bastards around? If someone shot it, you could hear it from a mile away. Plus it's only one shot then you have to reload and that can take several minutes. Provided you brought ample gunpowder, wadding, and flint caps with you....
