It has been kept quiet, but one of the team's best assistants is moving on.

Special teams coach Jerry Rosburg will leave for the Atlanta Falcons, who gave him a three-year contract to fill the same role.

Rosburg has been with the Browns since 2001, and the special teams have consistently been among the league's best.

His players swear by him - and the loss is significant.

One of the best coaches on our team just went out the window... He was one of the best special team coaches in the league..

A year ago, the Browns thought enough of Davidson to make him assistant head coach when the New York Jets inquired about his availability. He then took over when offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon "resigned."

He's now 99 percent out the door.

Davidson has opportunities with the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals, and he will not be back with the Browns.

Not really too upset, here...

What about Scherer?

Again, it depends on what Chudzinski wants, but unlike the other assistants, Scherer has another year on his contract. Scherer has a son in high school locally and would prefer not to move while he is in school.

That being said, Scherer did interview at LSU to be its coordinator and today will fly to UCLA to interview for the same position there.

He must weigh an opportunity with a major college program against the uncertainty of the future with the Browns.

Frye... Anderson... Dorsey... What a coach...

Looks like we're going to be re-constructing our whole offensive staff, something that needed to be done...

I'm interested to see who we hire for the ST job...

That has nothing to do with it at all...

are you 12 years old or something? All of your posts are terrible

all of my posts are short and sweet. I get right to the point.

also, ya most people like to coach on crappy teams.

We couldn't do anything about it...

Where would you rather coach at?

Falcons (a playoff team) OR Browns (when will they get it together)

I think it was a no-brainer for him and nothing the Browns could do about it...

• Jan. 23, 2005 - NFC Championship - Philadelphia 27, Atlanta 10

• Jan. 15, 2004 - NFC Divisional - Atlanta 47, St. Louis 17

• Jan. 11, 2003 - NFC Divisional - Philadelphia 20, Atlanta 6

• Jan. 4, 2003 - NFC Wild Card - Atlanta 27, Green Bay 7

They have all the talent to be a playoff team, they just have to put it all together... Injuries didn't help that team at all last year, either...

Yea sure...

Ok, they didn't make this year, they certainly arent getting any better. Mike Vick is obviously not the guy you want at QB. That defense isnt getting any better..

We should have offered the guy an extension or something...it's not like the Falcons situation is that much better than ours.

They aren't? Their core players are all still young:

Vick = 26
Crumpler = 29
Hall = 23
Abraham = 28
Hartwell = 28

Vick may not be the guy you want at the QB spot, but Petrino is an offensive mastermind and will find a way to utilize him correctly... The guy is a great offensive coach, he'll get the Falcons offense going in the right direction...

Their passing defense was a big problem, but they have a shut-down corner in Hall and a big time hitting safety in Milloy... They just need to develop Jimmy Williams along and get some more cornerback help...

They were ranked 9th vs the run, so they're pretty good in that area...

They were tied for 14th in getting 37 sacks... I'm sure that would of been higher if Abraham and Kerney played in all of the games...

I agree... But what it all comes down to:

Falcons Wins the last 3 years = 26
Browns Wins the last 3 years = 14

Plus, with Romeo's future uncertain, a firing off a coach, usually means the new coach cleans out the whole staff and brings his own in, so Rosburg might not of had good job security after next year...

Getting a little off-topic... It's basically a irrelevant argument... Plain and simple, Rosburg took the better job...

I still dont buy it...I dont see how it's a better job.

He took the players that he had here and had one of the best special teams in the NFL, I dont think it makes any sense to leave that and go somewhere else.

Vick isnt a core player...the guy is tearing that team apart, so as long as he is there, they arent going anywhere.

They got a college coach that is going into the NFL, and that rarely works out.

They got Hall, and that's pretty much it as far as defense goes. Dunn isnt getting any younger, no WRs, OL isnt anything special, so the team is going no where but down hill.

They peaked, its a wrap for Atlanta unless they get rid of Vick and try to quick rebuild

He has the belief that it's his skill as a special teams coach that made us successful, not necessarily the talent. We did have a solid group of young guys, but so does any other team. If he can help the Falcons become a great special teams unit like he did the Browns, then Atlanta will be that much better.

Besides... how would you feel, if you got your team good field position, only to see them go 3 and out the next play, sending your guys on the field to punt... again. If you got a TD, but rendered meangingless because the defense let up 21 points. If regardless of how much effort and success you put into your job, the team as a whole does not succeed. He's just sick of the team losing, and went somewhere where he has a better chance to win. Sentiments of many people in the Browns organization. I can't blame him.

It all comes down to money...the Falcons offered up more and that's where he went.
