Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

Call this the They Can Come Home Again trade. Both Doleac and Kapono have played for the Cavs, and Jones was a huge part of the Heat's success last season.

The Heat obviously needs another point guard because of Jason Williams' injury concerns, and Jones wouldn't necessarily be relegated to third point guard status, either.

Gary Payton can and has played the shooting guard position a lot, which would free up minutes at point for Jones.

Pat Riley didn't want to pay a reserve point guard $3.6 million, but he might reconsider if it means having a security blanket like Jones.

The Cavs need a big man (wasn't that Drew Gooden guarding Shaquille O'Neal on Thursday?), and they have already been floating Jones' name around in trades since Larry Hughes went down.

If that doesn't work, the Heat could try to pry Kevin Ollie from Philadelphia for point guard help.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

I heard a little about this but it was quickly shot down. Damon is more valuable to us than either of these guys and it makes no sense for us.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

what about a three way deal with Chicago that involves drew but we get Chris Duhon Doleac and Jason Kapono????? I would have to think hard about a trade like that

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

That trade would leave us with only one real point guard (sorry Mike Wilks). Helps our depth at the 2/3 spot short term and we do get a big man behind Ilgauskas. Maybe as part of another trade it could work, but Snow cannot be our only point man, especialy with Hughes out.

Cleveland Miami and Chicago in a 3 way deal....That is my official prediction....or maybe Cleveland Chicago and Seattle....i dunno what the hell im talking about

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

We already have too many one-dimensional 2/3 players on this team with Jackson, Newble and (to a certain extent) Pavlovic. I don't see how this trade would help us at all. All it does is weaken our weakest position.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

There is no reason why the Cavs would do this...Doleac is no better than Henderson and Kapono is nothing compared to Sasha.

Getting rid of Jones' contract is nice, but this will never happen

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

I consider getting rid of Jones as addition by subtraction, in and of itself. If we get back pieces that don't fit, but fill short term slots on the bench without long term cap implications ...I say do it. In this case, I'd do it. Damon Jones was an error, and getting rid of errors like that quickly is good damage control.

Yes ..you're right.... I can't stand having Damon Jones on my team. I never liked his game, and after watching his act here as a Cav, I've grown a pathological dislike for his game.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

we have at least 5 more losses this year without Damon, including our last 2 wins.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

I don't see where he helps us nearly as much as he hurts us ....as for him being the deciding difference in wins and losses,.,I don't know how assumptions like that can be made in a definitive fashion. I see lots of games where players have their way with him offensively, to a degree that I find embarrassing. But, I can't calculate as to the extent to which it directly effected a loss. Same goes on the other end with his contributions to wins. What I do see is a player who has lots of holes in his game,.,.far more holes than attributes.

Just like with LeBron's defense, it's going to take a while for people to set aside their bias towards damon and realize he's playing solid basketball these days.

With LeBron, there are tons of cavs fans who still think he doesn't play defense despite the fact he's been playing outstanding defense nearly all year (there have been a few lapses). Many fans haven't noticed, but Mike Brown certainly has - after the last two games, Mike Brown made it a point to say he expects LeBron to be on many first team all defensive teams. He won't get it this year, but he will get votes.

With Damon, he had that stretch where his shot wasn't falling and he wasn't really doing much else. However, even then, some of the plays he was getting burned on weren't really his fault - he led his man where he was supposed to and the defense didn't rotate like it was supposed to. You could see the look of surprise in his face. He also lost sight of doing other things and though he was only supposed to shoot 3s.

Lately, however, he's been taking it to the hoop, making some nice paces (he had one fantastic assist vs the bucks) and is playing solid defense, including a nice stretch when he was on Kidd. Is he ever going to be an all defensive player, of course not. But he's doing okay. I think the failure as a starter was a good learning experience for Damon - he's done a better job of embracing his full role since then and we've been getting our money's worth out of him.

It used to be that Z was the most under-appreciated Cav, but I think people finally see his value. Now it's a tossup between Drew and Damon. Drew because everyone wants to trade him, Damon because everyone wants to complain about his play, even when he had a good game. He was interviewed after the last game as player of the game for having a solid all around game and people beside me actually booed. Sure, LeBron and Varejao were more valuable, but you can't interview LeBron every time and they just had interviewed Varejao after the nets game.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

Z's ability should have never been questioned because he was always producing....Jones, however, has not.

His shot is crap and he adds pretty much nothing to this team. Wilks is a better defender and PG than Jones, but the threat of Jones shot and his contract are the only reasons why he is playing.

Id move Jones in a heartbeat if I could, that contract is terrible.

Re: Cavaliers' Damon Jones to Heat for Michael Doleac and Jason Kapono

i thought the trade had already been done when i read the first post. i started freaking out. Maybe you should specify that in the post...

I dont like thr trade

This rumor was a writer speculating about possible Miami trades. It wasn't really based on any fact.

If the Cavs were healthier now I might consider it. They get rid of Jones and his contract and don't take back any long term salary. They would get a shooter back in Kapono to help replace Jones and would get a legitimate backup C in Doleac, even though he might not be the greatest.
With the way things are now though I wouldn't make a deal like this.

Actually Lebron has pretty much become our PG because the other guys can't do what good PGs do. They don't get in the middle, they don't create, they don't in any sense run the offense or establish tempo, they don't pile up assists. I still think we need a starting PG. Snow is a great guy to have off the bench. Jones is a SG. A good PG would set Lebron up for some easier shots so he doesn't feel the need to create every time to get his points.
