Rumor: Jim Tressel leaving OSU after Sugar Bowl

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The problem with that line of thought is that one would have to believe that a Pryor didn't know he should not be selling his OSU awards he knew were valuable to both past and present OSU alumni and fans and to the history of THE Ohio State University. I guess if you really believe Tressel and Ohio State did not do enough educating, then sure, Pryor didn't know. Do you really believe that? I don't for one second.

Hard to believe.

Not like you have a mysterious grudge against Pryor...or Tressel for that matter.

For what it's worth, OSU AD Gene Smith is quoted on twitter as saying the rumors are not true and everyone should go back to enjoying Christmas.

Hope you all listen, Happy Holidays everyone!

Wouldn't be surprised, honestly.

I also honestly believe it's time for a change. Not saying I want Tressel out of OSU, but the last time he's won the big game has been awhile.. And he's had several chances.
Thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. You judge success on National Champions?

What's even harder to believe is that people in Ohio who should know the history and traditions of THE Ohio State, don't think it's much of a big deal if players actually SELL their awards given to them from THE Ohio State University. Forget the damn NCAA rules, etc. The Very Fact Pryor and the others SOLD their awards is extremely troubling. The more I think about it, the more pissed off I get. I know plenty of OSU alumni who are NOT happy about this at all and also believe as I do that these jerks should NOT be playing in the Sugar Bowl. Period.

Also; I'm having a hard time figuring out why Tressel is allowing them to do so.

Next year we shall make it an option.

We win the Big Ten Title; the players get the option of accepting the ring or the option of taking the equal value in cash instead.

We beat Michigan; the players get the option of accepting the gold pants or the option of taking the equal value in cash. Better yet, the players can auction off the gold pants to the highest bidder if they wish as well.

How does that sound..... better? :dunno:

Because that is what the NCAA told him to do.

Flip it on JT all you want...and you will because you're seemingly a guy who has no respect for one of the most well respected coaches in football.

But the NCAA gets what it wants.

The issue that's been brought up is that even those things were kids, they aren't allowed to sell them untill after they graduate. And players sell old awards all the time. Basically, that stuff belonged to them, but they weren't allowed to sell it. I can see how that could be confusing.

I have a hard time being angry at the kids for wanting spending money. If they feel that the want/need the money more than these things, then that is their choice. Given how hard the work and how well they've played, I don't see how that makes them any less Buckeye. It's not like they went into the Michigan game(s) saying, "I hope we win so I can hock those pants for $350 and a tat". The problem is that the stuff that belonged to them, they weren't allowed to sell, which goes against the nature of capitalism.

To boot, Pryor and Posey were getting money for their family. What do you think you'd rather have: a keepsake of a game you played in, or money for your family. Frankly, I'd rather OSU get kids who'd pick their family.

Thanks to the NCAA, thats not allowed, because the millionaire executives don't want to "professionalize" the sport.

This is such a load of shit. Mindless speculation that is being spawned by some tough times at tOSU. I can't believe that some of you guys are entertaining the idea as being possible and looking towards the future without him. He whoops the shit out of Michigan every year, he wins Big Ten titles like a habit, and has us in a the title hunt perenially. There is no freaking way they ask Tress to step down (or he considers walking away) just because the biggest prima dona in recent OSU history decided to sell his tradition-drenched bling like a dimebag for a shitty tattoo.

Unreal some of the rumors people cling to...

Wow. I can't believe what I'm reading in here.

The issues as I see them are bunch of whiny kids who think they are better than anyone else. They think they can get away with all things and have zero responsibility while doing it. The issue is the selling of Ohio State Awards. Period. I don't give a flying F as to why they sold them. They sold them. Period.

Why does Pryor need an 08 ring when he has 09 and a forthcoming 10?

As far as pants/jerseys go...they actually have to pay the school for that per NCAA rules.

What if OSU top brass wants the players suspended for the Sugar Bowl as well, and Jim Tressel wants them to play and fought for it? Maybe OSU doesn't believe Tressel is holding the same values as many before him did as he is not taking the infractions seriously enough by suspending all of them for the Sugar Bowl as well?

... just a thought.
You're clueless if you actually believe any of what you just said there.. Jim Tressel probably wants to suspend them but is under pressure from the BCS and the NCAA to play the kids so the BCS can make more money..

This is just unacceptable.

The players are complete morons. They should know better, all the compliance education should have taught them what they were doing could possibly be deemed as innappropriate. They should have at least checked before they sold the stuff. They also are fools for not understand their importance, history, and legacy to Ohio State Football. Selling a big 10 championship ring? I can't think of a bigger slap in the face to the University than that.

All that being said, the NCAA is basically asking kids to do this. They do not allow atheletes to get a job while in college so where does their money come from? They are on a full ride through the university but what about books, food, basic necessities? Most college kids either get a job or they rely on mom & dad to support them. Some of the football guys aren't so lucky to have mom and dad support them. How are they supposed to get by with every day expenses?

They may be whiny kids, but most of them are broke 20 year old whiny kids with bad judgement. They are dumb for doing what they did but the NCAA put them in the position to make bad decisions.
