Running is dumb

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just bought some Nike Pegasus and a little more comfortable, but still felt pain in foot after 2 miles. Bought a foot massager off Amazon to help after runs
I'll ask a question that hopefully makes sense: is it "soreness" or "pain"? Like, a general uncomfortable feeling, or more of a sharp, "something is wrong" feeling?

Either way, if you're getting sore after 2 miles, then do one. Or one and a half. Work your way up. It sounds like you are a beast with weight training - the basic idea is the same. You didn't walk in the gym the first day and bench six big plates - you had to work your way up to it. Running is no different.

I have never actually tried Asics running shoes. Someone told me early on, if you find shoes that work and you like — don't
mess around stick with them (sounds like you guys already do). As i mentioned in a previous post — the Saucony Speeds and Hoka Rincons are my main shoes.

I guess you could say i was a running shoe slut early on and tried a ton.
The only ones that haven't worked for me are Nike - they are inevitably too small in the toe box for me - just not comfortable. I've learned to stay away from them. Again though - that's my feet. Somebody else will run in Nikes all the time and love them.

Frankly, I don't think shoes matter all that much (or at least, not as much as many make it out to be - as long as you have a well-made shoe that has some life left, you'll be fine). It's not like there is some secret model out there, that if you just find it, you'll slice 10 minutes off your PR.

Thanks for the tips. It's more of a once my adrenaline comes down my foot feels swollen and can not put any pain on for about a day. I'd say not something is wrong unless I have bad blood or something because my pain was so bad after kickboxing I couldn't walk and my xrays showed no damage. But I couldn't walk.

I’m a big walker. Try to get 100k steps a week. Running isn’t for me, though I wish it was. At 6’6 and 250 pounds, it would just kill my body. A nice incline walk on the treadmill does the trick, though. I also use Asics. They actually make a size 17.

I’m 6’3 130. Bench 280.

That's awesome! Your weight and max bench press fluctuates dramatically!
Weighed 185 down to 130.
And your bench 280, up from 215.

Lifelong runner, til a couple years ago.

I did the Pittsburgh Marathon. Trained appropriately for it and then my legs just completely fell apart after I finished. Bursitis, hamstring and IT band damage, plantar fascitis, the whole nine.

You couldn’t pay me to run a mile after it. Too painful and too boring. Fun achievement but now I just bike a few times a week and play racquetball. Yes racquetball you fucking pussy. It’s back.
The "22 mile wall" is a semi-myth; it's really more like 14 miles if you haven't trained exceptionally well.

Almost relevant, but I’m not really interested in a biking thread.

Doing a 36 mile bike race in a few weeks. Never gone that far. 26 is the longest since I started “training” for this.

I’d like to so some super long ones in the future.

Love cycling. Almost as good as running.. 25 miles is now a milk run.. but if you are going to do 50+ consider a trail bike.. more than two hours in the saddle is hard on me, so I rigged a trail /gravel bike where I am more upright..

Speaking of Running is Dumb. Kevin Hart challenged Steven Ridley to a race and regretted his decision.

After a certain point in life it’s no longer safe to try to sprint full force / full speed. It’s dangerous because your mind clearly remembers how to order your legs to extend and sprint as fast as you could when you were 20 but if you actually do that your tendons can’t take it.

Fortunately I strained my hamstring before my abdomen tore…

P.S anyone 45-50+ reading this PAY ATTENTION this is you

I just find lower impact cardio to be a better idea. I used to run a lot when I was prepping my packet for Marine Corps OCS. I think I had my 3 mile down to like 18 minutes which, I know, isn’t going to impress a track runner but for me I was pretty proud.

After I got hurt I just never went back to it. Cycling and elliptical and stuff just put way less strain on my knees, plus I’d probably trip over my drop foot. :chuckle:

Power to you runners tho!

Cycling is low impact. But you have to pace yourself.. I ride with a mix of ages 40 to 70.. 70 guys are a little slow. 40s guys a little too fast.. but you find a group that likes to bullshit, and no riders that what to compete on everything.. if they are bragging about thier Strada score after the first trip bail..
