ESPN rumors is stating that the Rays may be willing to move Kazmir....potentiallly for Victor Martinez perhaps?? Same rumors page sates that the Rays are interested in Martinez, would it be a fair swap if in fact that's what going on?

No, we will not be making this trade. No way, Jose.

Why not?? would be a much better move than for so called 'prospects' ?

No way they would trade Kazmir straight up for Vic.

You gotta understand baseball. Unless you're a contender, then you trade for the "so called 'prospects'." That's just the way it is.

Even if we got Kazmir we'd trade him for a 37 year old Class A reliever coming off Tommy John surgery and a stint at the Betty Ford clinic.

Victor may be more of what they are looking for....Kazmir has an ERA higher than 5 and a losing record..... teams have before traded name for name before...nothig wrong with it as long as both teams are good with it, I don't see why not. Will be intersting to see what happens.

Because????

Contending teams rarely trade good player for good player. The Rays have a lot of good young pitchers but pitching depth is crucial for making a playoff run. Unless this is a pre emptive move to get a legit arm before trading Lee, I don't see this happening.

Kazmir is also 4-5 this season with a 6.62 ERA and hurt so I'm not going to throw a party if this trade happens... :thumbdown

will you throw a party if once again the Indians trade one of our best players for prospects that won't ever make the big league club? I think I would, rather wait for Kazmir to get better, than wait fo prospects to help this club. Atleast we know what Kazmir brings to the table....he started today agaist the white sox

Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
S Kazmir
(L, 4-6) 6.0 5 5 5 3 5 1 98-65 6.69
..didn't watch the game but nothing worse than what the Indians already have.

Do you realize how we got Grady Sizemore and Cliff Lee? By trading an ace in Bartolo Colon away. It is a proven fact now that Mark Shappiro is one of the better GMs when it comes to getting prospects and watching them become good players. Shin Soo Choo and Asdrubal Cabrera, both traded for, from Seattle. Cliff Lee and Sizemore, both in a trade, and we also got Brandon Phillips in that deal.. We got a catcher for Casey Blake who is rated as the best catcher in all of the Minors, and at the lowest 2nd behind Buster Posey. Traded Enar Diaz and Ryan Dreese for Travis Hafner. Even though we got rid of Franklin Gutierrez, we managed to trade a head case in Milton Bradley for him. He also traded Chuck Finley, in the last year of his career, for a PTBNL, who turned out to be Coco Crisp.

For you to say the Indians are going to trade one of our best players for prospects who won't ever make the big league club, is simply retarded

I could see the Rays trying to swap him for Cliff Lee, but not for Victor.

Would I take him? Depends on what other prospects the Rays include. Kazmir has two more years left on his contract at 22M total. That is a lot of money if he doesn't recover from his poor year. And let's be blunt- he has been bad this year. He has always been a high walk guy but this year they have ballooned. He is also on the smallish side at 6'0"; with shorter guys you tend to have more effort being exerted to throw hard and arm injuries are more likely. This was one of the factors in the Mets originally considering him expendable for Victor Zambrano. He has some miles on his arm, he has had elbow issues in the past and you have to wonder when it will finally go. This is a concern with all pitchers but moreso with your smaller starters.

I would have to see who else the Rays include considering that the Tribe would be eating more salary to take on Kazmir. If the Rays still tos in a good prospect or two I would be open to it- just let the team doctors pour over Kazmir's records first.

Well yeah, of course they raise them well. We're the farm team for ever major league team. We give players away like candy.

I just don't think this team is going to contend for some time.. Poor starting pitching and a weak bullpen will take a while to repair.. They need to take care of 3rd and first, and get power from the position, unless they can get a solid fielding .300 type of first baseman with solid power, like a John Olerud type of guy..

At this point, I think the should just break it down, get a new manager, and build their team according to the style of the manager... What type of team are the Indians ?? They don't execute hit & runs, they don't steal bases, they don't lay down bunts -- thus, they don't play small ball..They don't have power in the lineup either, so what are they ?? I have no idea how they get the offense they do, because they're a really weirdly built team..

IMO, the prospects are the way to go... Get some quality ones, and lock them up for 4 or 5 years once they reach..

Kazmir has been a proven player, but he's a stop gap, because if he regains his form, he won't be here long... And it's not like he's a piece that can put this team over the top...
