Shootouts and explosions in Paris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The thing is, all of the above were, to some degree, true. But it didn't necessarily make them a grave threat or a group of people that shouldn't have been accounted for.

The key word is "necessarily", and of course you're right. The fact that people say something presents a danger doesn't nevessarily make it true.

But there's a confirmed history of people coming from that part of the world to the U.S. for the express purpose of killing Americans. One of the Paris attackers was a fake refugee with a bogus passport, and five Syrians were just busted today trying to enter the U.S. with bogus passports.

There are always cracks. The more we let in, the thinner our resources are spread, and the more likely that some are going to slip through those cracks.

And I really concerned that the standards are going to slip as the number of people we're committing to accept increases.

Stannis, I'm not sure I understand the bolded. Governors don't have any say in national immigration or refugee policy. If the Administration and Congress permit the process to move forward, I'm not sure how state governors could stop that process.

Hines v. Davidowitz, “the supremacy of the national power in the general field of foreign affairs, including power over immigration, naturalization and deportation, is made clear by the Constitution.”

Whoops. Typo. Should have said "no power...." Corrected.

Only 1/4 of the public agree with Obama's stance on this one.

34 governors and climbing want him to pump the brakes too.

isn't this a humanitarian issue that is more important than political spin or a public opinion poll. Do we really let the terrorists win on this issue? The world collectively turning their back on these people in need is exactly what ISIS wants.

Out of curiosity is your position we shouldn't have taken in Jewish refugees, we should've because it was a much bigger conflict, or we should've for some other reason? It will help me understand where you are coming from. If it's the last one I ask what's the difference?

This would be music to ISIS' ears. Telling your fellow citizens to live in fear, stay in your homes, bow to potential attacks. Land of the Free and home of the... cowardly?

You confuse vigilance with fear, sir. I didn't tell anyone to stay at home, except people in Detroit, and that isn't because of terrorists. It is because they live in Detroit.

I'm not running for office or trying to win a poll. For me it's a national security issue. I'm all for giving humanitarian aid to assist them over there. I just want my kids to be safe long after i die. It's not if, but when will we start having Paris like events happening here...and they'll probably be much worse. The migration crisis is the trojan horse over there(and here) for the terrorists to easily spread. Look at the last couple weeks - Paris, Russian plane bombing with a pop can, truck bomb found outside soccer games. It's only the beginning. Our vetting system sucks and has failed time and time again. If we can decrease the odds or frequency of future attacks here by stopping the flood of refugees and simultaneously actually securing our borders, then let's do it.

Sorry, but we can't take care of own here already, so i'm not interested in bringing 10's of thousands over here that are also going to be on welfare. It's not sustainable...and it's dangerous.

Do we really let the terrorists win on this issue? Nope. I also don't think "they win" by us pausing the refugee program for a while and reassessing. Instead of Obama sniping at the GOP about not letting in Syrians, he should be aggressively assisting and unifying the rest of the world in going after the terrorists and destroying them. If anyone is "spinning": it's Obama.

In world war 2 the US had it's own camps used to imprison thousands of Japanese American citizens for no other reason than their race. Most of them were born in the US and had lived here their entire lives. We had the good sense to not kill them like the germans did, but how long did it take to know that was happening? How could the US complain about their being rounded up into camps when the US was doing this to it's own citizens?

over where? If they leave their country for fear of death, they have to go somewhere. The refugees aren't in Syria (where 250k people have been killed and half of the country has been displaced) anymore.

I want our children to be safe too. We don't have to forget who we are in the process. The terrorists want to change who we are. The refugees fled Syria in hopes of keeping their own children safe.

They are living like this

This already is happening here.

Aurora, Columbine, VA Tech, Boston Marathon, Olympic Park Bombing, OKC. It's been happening forever.

Refusing safe harbor to a 2 year old orphan is not going to prevent these things from happening. I don't know what the answer is, but if you think we are going to completely stop terror attacks, no we are not.

I get where you are coming from, but what if you knew you had a 100% chance of saving the lives of 10K people, but that would mean a 0.01% chance you have let someone in who would kill 20-30 people. How can you not take those odds? Google Raqqa and select images. How can you not want to help? These are human beings. They unfortunately didn't win the life lottery that we did. We can help them.

Also, screw ISIS. And kudos to France for continuing to take the refugees. They are not afraid. They will not be intimidated. The French have impressed me greatly in the last week.

Someone tell me it's irrational to fear flying from Tampa to Cleveland on Thanksgiving eve.

This happened today.

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WKBN) – Five foreign nationals were arrested on the Ohio Turnpike in Braceville Township Friday and charged with possessing criminal tools and forgery.

Troopers initially pulled over a vehicle for making an improper lane change as it was heading east on the turnpike. During a search of the car, troopers uncovered a machine to duplicate and create credit cards.

Those arrested were Jibril Abdiselam, 24; Mohammeddeq Hassan, 27; Mahamoud Mohamed, 26; Zakaria Warsame, 25; Said Abu (no picture or information provided). All five men are from the Columbus area.

All five suspects are being held in the Trumbull County Jail on $25,000 bond each. All five had to surrender their passports.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in Newton Falls Municipal Court on Thursday.

It's unknown what country of origin these guys come from and it's not a suggestion that they are up to any other criminal activity but it does speak to how hard it is to move to a country with such stark cultural differences and how that might lead to criminal activity.

I'm not against taking in Syrian refugees but I am concerned about how they will melt with society based on their traumatic experiences in their own country.

Completely irrational. For perspective, I am going to West Africa and coming home though Paris 3 weeks from now. Tampa to Cleveland doesn't sound too bad now does it?

They are living like this

Who's worse off? Why 10,000 Syrians and not these starving kids first? Where do we stop KI?
