Should Jamey Carroll be traded? (Buster Onley thinks so)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I love Carroll, so I'm sure he would get traded. I hope not. He's a great player.

i like carrol but i want marte, laporta and valbuena playing every day from here on out...so he would be the odd man out

i like Jamey a lot, I think we should deal him though, give him a shot to contend

Valbuena is strictly a platoon hitter right now. Stuffing him in against lefties could easily kill the groove he is finding against right handers. It is typical for left-handed hitters to need time to adjust to bigleague lefties, so breaking him in slowly is to his advantage. If you deal Carroll, you lose Valbuena's platoon buddy.

For years fans have screamed about this club's lack of fundamentals and all the finer points. Yet here is a veteran ballplayer who does all those things and folks want to get rid of him? For the peanuts that a utility infielder returns?

Another club may yet still give Carroll a shot at being a starter at 2B. He has played pretty well the last two years here in Cleveland and there are worse starting 2B in this league. However, if there was one veteran guy I would like to see on this club to help impart his 'wisdom' and fundamentals it would be Carroll.

With September calls up just a few days ago, losing Jamey Carroll would only allow younger guys play more. I believe we can bring up any player on our 40 man roster. Unless we really want to have him back next year, it would be pointless to have him taking at bats from other guys and pretty much losing a little bit of money.

If we can get Hodges or Donald up here I wouldn't mind

We might as well trade anyone on our team with MLB experience since we won't be going anywhere for a loooong time... :(

I don't really see any young infielders on the 40-man that need playing time, though. Donald is hurt and isn't playing in AAA. Hodges is a 3B, he can't fill Carroll's role. That leaves guys like Jesus Merchan (minor league FA signed last winter) or Tony Grafanino<sp>. I don't see what they really bring to the table.

The Indians dealt away a mediocre AAA arm in Sean Smith to get Carroll. While it was a salary dump at the time by the Rox, it would be the same situation if the Tribe was to deal Jamie now. Even if Carroll walks as a FA, I don't see the team being able to leverage him in trade for a meaningful prospect.

Um, Valbuena is not a platoon player. In fact, I don;t think he's had a day off since mid-July.

And that further paints the picture I want to see: The young guys getting every possible chance to play the remainder of the year. I like Carroll as much as anyone on the team, but we need to let these young kids play. It's sucks Donald got hurt.

Yes. We need to give the kids the experience. It will be interesting to see what happens when Crowe comes back. Does that mean LaPorta sits the bench, or Crowe, or Marte? One of those three will get the bulk of wood splinters the rest of the year. As much as a like Carrol, he's got to go one way or the other. I believe the Rockies would want him back, so we'll see. A young player can take his place.

Who should sit the bench the most of those three?... LaPorta, Crowe or Marte?

Crowe without a doubt, although he hasn't been playing poorly. LaPorta should get spelled once every 15 games or so. He needs to play as much as possible. Same with Marte.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer believes Jamey Carroll would be an attractive utility target for contending teams. Hoynes writes, "He's hitting .318 (27-for-85) in his past 24 games and .290 (65-for-224) overall with seven doubles, two triples, two homers, 20 RBI and 42 runs. He's played second base, third base, left field and right field."

From MLBtraderumors.com. Only about 4 days until the deadline to trade players.

Looks like we'll find out tomorrow if he or anyone else is traded or not. The Dodgers traded for Belliard so they don't need him anymore. I think the Twins or the Phillies would be a good fit(they are rumored to be interested in Nomar).
