Someone to keep an eye on

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Agree with all of this, Heyward is absolutely beasting in the minors. But so did another Braves prospect named Andruw Jones. He had some really nice years, but is a shell of his former self. Maybe he was rushed, or maybe he just couldn't sustain, but the point is that you never know until they get to the show.

There is talk that Heyward might be brought up when the rosters are expanded in Sept. I'm curious to see how he'll do. I have to imagine he is in the mix for a starting gig next season with the Braves.

Maybe he was a steroid injected freak that blew up like Star Jones after MLB started cracking down?

Hard to hit with a bad elbow as well, if it were most other players they would have shut it down already.

FWIW, Mike Stanton is an absolute stud. But I talked to a scout from an NL West team the other night who said he likes Atlanta's Jason Heyward better.

I don't think there is a better prospect in all of baseball. I've seen Heyward play, but have yet to see Stanton.

I can't imagine there is a better prospect in all of baseball than Heyward, but some people certainly like Stanton a ton too.

I think Heyward has the talent to be THE premier player in all of baseball in 5-6 years.

He is that good, A-Rod/Griffey type impact.

Recently promoted to AA Mississippi, he's only responded by hitting .415/.496/1.198 in his first 28 games.

Oh, and he doesn't turn 20 until Sunday.

I hate to call bullshit, especially when I don't know, but i find it hard to believe that you have any contacts to baseball. Aren't you the same person that said Chisenhall wasn't good, or that he was a bad player? If not, I apologize. If so, yea, bullshit.

I think he said he "didn't and still and doesn't" like the Chisenhall pick. ;)

Chisenhall is definitely proving me wrong, because I never thought his power would develop as quickly as it did. But he still has to prove it consistently, which I hope for the Indians sake he can do. He was a reach at the time, and I don't think there is much debate about that. I figured it was just another signability issue, which is what really made me hate the pick in addition to going from SS to 3B (a position where power is a MUST).

Damage, I work in the Eastern League (Double A) for the Orioles. My contacts are scouts who visit our press box that I get to BS with before the games, it's not like I'm pretending to be some heavy hitter in a professional organization. And even moreso is that I've talked about it over on YOUR message board when I first got the job (bf555).

It's a great networking opportunity for me, but the input I've received from scouts has been incredible. I had the chance to go see Heyward play in Frederick (O's Class-A affiliate) earlier in the season when he was a member of the Myrtle Beach squad.

Needless to say, I was impressed both in person and in talking to the scouts, especially the one who told me he feels he will be one of the premier players in baseball within five-six years.

The kid is a stud...

Well Boobie does for once have a point (I kid, I kid)

At the time the Chisenhall pick was pretty skeptical, but I think most people by now admit he's really impressing.

--Damage has his own message boards? Slick! ;)

Yup.. Heyward has 'all time great' type of potential.. He's ahead of Stanton for sure.. Keep in mind though, Cliff Floyd was a lot like Heyward in terms of potential, but it never materialized .. All these cats are hit and miss..

The intrigue with Stanton is the fact that he hasn't played the game all that long in terms of organized ball, yet, on raw talent alone, he's shown phenomenal promise... His understanding of the game, and what pitchers throw in terms of pitch sequences, and how they try to get him out has not caught up with the physical talent... If the mental game catches up, he's a Dave Winfield/Vladimir Gurrerro type of talent..
