How so? Non-citizens have to pay income and other taxes just like everyone else. So if we give illegals who are currently here legal status, but not citizenship, it doesn't cost us a penny in tax revenue. They even have to pay social security and other payroll taxes, even if they are not permanent residents and therefore have no right to benefits.

Self-deporting is an interesting theory, but you're going to potentially have a large percentage of families affected or broken up because of a paperwork issue.

It's not just a paperwork issue, like they forgot to file a form or something. It's that they came here knowing they were in violation of the law and subject to deportation. So to the effect a family is "affected", that's kind of the point. If you don't like it, go home.

If you follow what I'm actually saying, I'm not really pushing/hoping for 10 million people to leave. What I want is to do is 1) gain control of the border; 2) turn off the spigot of more people coming in illegally, and; 3) have better control over the foreign nationals that are in the country so we can ensure they are being taxed, don't vote unless legally permitted, etc..

All kidding aside, the Haitians who I work with fall into the "either the hardest workers to provide for their family or least motivated workers" coin flip category.

I get that. But then the solution is to get Congress to change the quotas, not for the President to ignore them.

I would hope the President can do all the office can without Congressional approval.

I have a real problem with the President deliberately refusing to enforce certain laws, or deliberately engaging in selective enforcement that undermines the intent of a valid law.

I know some of his supporters love that, but you ought to consider how that power can be used by the other side if the GOP wins the White House.
