So.. I went to the rec today... Ya.. you'd think it be a bunch of no good players.. But, suprisingly there where two...

1- Bolts... He was like 5 foot, and literally was FASTER then LeBron.. NOT KIDDING.... THe ball was in the corner. After a cross court pass he intercepted, it took about ehhh five seconds to score on the other end.. He was CRAZY...

2- No clue what this guys name was.. He was 6 10... 290... ALL MUSCLE... is arms where HUGE... His team would miss a shot. He'd dunk it on the rebound... He could hit the High school three(19.6 feet), then on a fast break, He went BETWEEN THE LEGS on the dunk... He was probably the best player NOT in the NBA i have ever seen... IMO, he's better then Jawad... I wish I knew his name and took a picture of him. His hand engulfed like up to my forearm...

Ever seen any good players at the REC/in HS/College?

Not trying to ruin this thread but, everyone who plays rec thinks they are better than everyone else. They think they will all go in the NBA. They can play backyard basketball like a champ.... but can they play with refs and rules, no.

Speed is relative. You cannot say someone is faster than someone else having never played against the other person. I've played against players that I could've sworn were faster than anyone I saw on tv, but no way would they outrun an NBA fastbreak.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand I have played against some solid basketball players in my day. In high school I played against a kid named David Jackson (starts for Penn State now). He played on a team in my league that was a lot better than our team, but I had a few shining moments. One time we played against them in a summer league and for reasons unknown he decided to check me (I was a 5'10 two-guard, he was a 6'6 center). To start the game we ran our regular watered down motion offense, but coming off of the off-ball screen to start the play I made three 3's the first four trips down the floor with him closing out inches away from blocking them each time :chuckles:. Anytime h.s. hoops comes up in a small party setting and I'm anywhere from buzzed to loaded that story comes out (narration depends on the area between buzzed and loaded, of course).

Another sweet story involves pick-up ball at the gym right by my apartment. It's not our school's main gym, but every now and then we get in good runs. One day last year, Sam Young, starting SF for Pitt rolled through. I had played in games against him before up at the good gym and what not so I wasn't star struck. But the game was tight, going to straight 11, all ones. I made my only two shots that game so I was ready to pop off the game winner when it was 10-10. But, our pg got stripped at the top of the key and there was a 1 on 1 going the other way and I was the trailer running down the court with Young. The kid with the ball missed the layup off the back of the rim and I closed in to get the rebound, but the ball never fell below the hoop :(. Young skied up and put it back with one hand for game point. I didn't get dunked on, but that was one of the single most feelings of helplessness in my life.

Well, there are some stories. Sorry to sound like a washed up gym rat that reminisces to those who have no interest

This one big guy that plays at the gym in my college. Oh My Goodness... I have to admit im not the greatest ball player, I'm a pg but I don't try to get fancy like many I've played with. I do the occasional fake behind the back pass and take it for a layup but I'm not a big fan of driving to the hoop for a bucket, I'd rather give it to the forward or whoever is cutting. Anyway, back to THE BEAST. He was 6'7 but he had the wingspan of a 7 footer. I loved playing with the guy because he loved to dunk. we've connected with soooooo many ally oops its insane. And the other guys that play aren't midgets either. I've quit playing for a while but I get to play again this month which I am ecstatic about.

When I was at Purdue I went to the Co-Rec all the time. A few times I went with some B-ball friends. The people you play against at the rec look all world until a future professional all star gets out there. You then realize the diference in level between good rec ball and actuall division 1 college ball...much less pro basketball. I am sure they are good, but their games have have flaws, thus they are playing at the rec. BTW, purdue used to have a closed games in the armory every summer. I never played by any means, but it was between former players and current players. Many of the former greats would come to play in the game...even the pros. It was fun to watch. Pick up basketball at its best.
