I agree. I hate what Kurtzman has done to Trek in general. Thankfully, Kurtzman was banished from Picard and Terry Matalas, and actual fan, has taken over.

Season 3 really is that good and, blissfully, you need not know anything about Seasons 1 and 2. It thankfully ignores them.

You need only know that 7 of 9 has since joined Starfleet and is a commander. And it helps to know the basic outline of DS9.

Otherwise, enjoy! The payoff is immense.

As a raging TNG fan you will finally get the resolution we all never got 20 years ago.
Noted, thanks!

Picard... Episodes 9 & 10 were HOLY SHIT!!! episodes!

The way they left this open for a new series with Seven as the captain of the new Enterprise and Q returning to test Jack... oh hell yes, I'd be ALL IN for THAT series!

If Kurtzman, may his bones rot, doesn't green-light "Star Trek: Legacy," starring Seven, while also bringing back Liam Shaw, he is an idiot. Clearly, the fans have spoken with Picard Season 3 against his ludicrous 'Star Trek: Diversity' paradigm of endless fucking prequels, that even if done well without all the inclusion dialed up to 11, is not what anyone ever asked for. People wanted to know what happened after the Dominion War and Voyager's return done properly, not endless navel gazing about Captain Mary Sue, Daughter of Sarek, or really anything preceding TOS, or even this dark, humorless version of the late 2390s that the first two seasons of Picard were.

It's like as if after WWII history decided "Hey! Let's study the 1920s a lot, and not the burgeoning Cold War or De-Colonization! Let's have not one, but three series about the Dust Bowl!"

But, evidently, Picard Season 3 has been by a factor of 10 the most popular of the Star Trek shows since Voyager went off the air. It set all kinds of new benchmarks for streaming. Paramount raked in the bucks. If they don't go with Legacy they are fucking morons who hate money.

It actually wasn't bad.

Clever premise.

Spock, like TOS Spock (TOS episode "Plato's Stepchildren)," has a nice singing voice.
I'm going to watch this today. Overall I like that they're taking the strange new worlds premise and giving themselves some freedom to change things up

Under the Cloak of War was very impressive. Shades of DS9’s In the Pale Moonlight.

Thank you again for recommending S3 of Picard earlier in the thread, btw! Pleasantly surprised at how well it turned out.
No problem!

I'm just glad we got the ending we all deserved for the TNG crew and the Enterprise D.

It shows that new Trek can do some things right after all!

Can I watch DS9 without having watched TOS and TNG?

I know I’d probably enjoy it even live all three of them but I’m intimated by the sheer number of episodes and my lack of self control when binging shows so kind of want to just watch the series that I’ll enjoy most

You can watch DS9 without TOS and TNG. The first episode heavily references one of the GOAT TNG episodes (Best of Both Worlds) so the impact might be lessened a bit starting up. Some characters do cross over from TNG to DS9 as well.

But I feel as though DS9 stands on its own extremely well. Just remember it gets really good once the executives finally let The Sisko shave his head and have a goatee.

You may want to watch about 10-15 episodes of TNG to get some basics on the Bajorans, the Cardassians, the Ferengi, the Borg and the general state of Alpha Quadrant powers' inter-galactic relations; particularly Klingon and Romulan politics. As well as learning of the glory of everyman Chief Miles O'Brien.

And a certain Klingon named Worf, Son of Mogue, Son of Sergei of House Rozhenko, Bane of the House of Duras etc., etc.

After that, DS9 does a very comprehensive job of fleshing out the universe far more than TNG did.

By the end of DS9 everyone is an expert on Bajor and Cardassia.

Season 3 of Picard was by far the best Star Trek project in probably a decade.
