Stop Kony

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I read through some of this thread and now i'm really confused.

As some of you know, I own an internet based custom printed apparel company - http://www.inktastic.com

I am aware of the Kony video, but haven't watched it because I'm sure it is depressing. I noticed that our competitors are now selling Kony apparel to "raise awareness". This doesn't seem right to me. If we're going to create and sell Kony shirts, we're going to donate some of the proceeds. So we set up a special site specifically for Kony designs and have our graphics designers working on designs. The plan is to donate 30% of all sales from his store to inivisiblechildren.com - but now I'm confused about the whole thing.

Is this a good idea? Is there somewhere else to donate the money that would better help the children of Uganda? Other than bringing him to justice is Kony even still a real issue? Are children still suffering because of him? I'd appreciate any feedback before we open our new site.

invisible children only donates 30% of their proceeds and isnt generally thought of as a good organization.. And donations to any cause to africa is like taking a fly swatter and.. well going to africa.

My aunt's going to Uganda to help out personally, I don't expect her back.

wtf is sp? and goddammit wtf is sa

where does the 30% number come from? This chart doesn't look bad and shows 37% going to programs in africa and another 10% of expenses going towards making the products they sell (which I suspect also generates quite a bit of their revenue)

Hey, as a business person I am right on page with you, taking into consideration ideal/standard margins, but to the lay person (and especially the philanthropic lefties) that this movement is appealing to, the idea of a movement that doesnt even give half of what they donated to go to fight the cause they have positioned themselves as dedicated to aggressively fighting comes off as an ugly product and manipulation..

'Kony 2012' Honcho Jason Russell Detained for Allegedly Masturbating in Public

(update) 1:45 PM PST: The CEO of Invisible Children, Ben Keesey, tells TMZ ..."Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition."

The statement continues, "He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday."

"Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.”

The mastermind behind the now-famous "Kony 2012" video was detained by police in San Diego yesterday for allegedly being drunk in public and masturbating.

Jason Russell was taken into custody by San Diego cops. In addition to allegedly masturbating, cops say he vandalized cars.

Cops told NBC7 in SD they received several calls around 11:30 AM ... reporting a man in "various stages of undress."

Sources tell us ... Russell was dancing around the Intersection of Ingraham and Riviera wearing "speedo-like underwear" ... and eventually removed the underwear and began to make sexual gestures.

We're told ... it appeared Russell was under the influence of some kind of substance.

Cops told NBC, "Officers detained [Russell] and transferred him to a local medical facility for further evaluation and treatment."

Russell is the father of two, and says he wants to have 9 more kids.

Russell is the co-founder of Invisible Children as well as the filmmaker of the ultra-viral video which has set records on the Internet -- with more than 80 million views (below).
