Summer League: 7/14 Cavs vs. Wizards 6:30PM EST *Live Video*

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
lol at the peeps freaking out about the summer league.

W&G, do you know if the Cavs have formulated their plan of development with Christian yet? I know you brought up that they wanted to get a plan in place for him ASAP, just curious as to whether they have decided what they wanted to do. Whether it's in the D-League or Europe.

We're watching and evaluating. I think we are being very much impressed after just three games. He amazed us in a brief workout in Independence with his athetic abilities. Now, we're seeing him grow daily at a level of ball he's never played against before.

His athleticism is so far up there it allows him to adapt so freakishly fast. When you have a talent like this, from my experience you throw it at him, and push his growth.

To not know pretty much any English and perform like he has, I'm impressed. It is evident though that he is very raw and will need help developing. I hope our coaching staff can pull it off.

Someone, in detail, please tell me what Eyenga did tonight. I'm really warming up to this guy.

I missed a good deal of the first half and 3rd quarter due to a choppy feed and other commitment....

However when I tuned again he just surprised me by looking comfortable, smooth and he had a certain court awareness about him. At one point he made 3 three straight baskets .. he had a nice fast break reverse layup that was contested tightly if I remember correctly. He splashed a few from outside. I seen at least one nice post move by him also.

I'm thinking that in one of these upcoming games he might shock Vegas with a sick dunk... that's what I'm anticipating and hoping for.

I'm a little unsure of what we (like I have options) should do with Christian Eyenga.

1) leave him over in Europe for two years, once he starts to play tougher competition gets acclimated, and becomes a serious talent bring him over.

2) (I doubt this happens ...) put him over at the D-League against semi ready NBA talent, once he gets comfortable and produces, bring him up and let him go at it.

Honestly, my biggest worry is that he goes somewhere for 2 years, we get regular updates that he is doing incredible, then once we bring him over to the team he struggles or Coach Brown puts him in the doghouse and gets few minutes of actual playing time or disappears all together (the other european player 2nd round 2 years ago)...I guess my question is what is our ultimate celling with this guy, starting for a potential NBA title contender in 3-4 years (ala Manu Ginobli) or solid contributor...backup to lebron?

Personally, I would rather have him leave the country, play in europe with budding talent for a few years, then once we feel he is ready, bring him up and see what we have, I just don't want to over hype someone who isn't ready for the rigors of an 82 game schedule...

from what I've seen (highlights) he seems like he has improved, but only time can tell. sorry for the rambling

It's obvious to see what they were protecting in Eyenga. He's got "it". And honestly, thev kid is just the equal to a high school sophomore in game experience. This kid is as raw as you'll ever see a kid his age, at this level.

I didn't think he would compete well at this level, seriously. He's surprising me that he's adapting so quickly. But, what blew me and others away was when we saw in just the few clips we were able to view of this kid was how he could effectively use either hand well.

In a couple years I think we may have our Pippen with this kid, but, I don't wanna put that pressure on him yet.

:yay:

At long last. We finally found our Pippen! Well at least it's a hopeful thought.

With the limited draft choices that Ferry has had access to, he was bound to find something good with star potential. J.J. is one of those that is a 50/50. Eyenga seems to be the same.

And it's convenient if Eyenga turns into that 20 point, 5 rebound, 5 assist guy, because that will mean he can spell LeBron.

I say keep him on the team. The real Scottie only had 7 points, 3 rebounds and assists in 20 minutes his first year and turned into something special after several years of his 22 year old rookie season.

If Eyenga can do that much, he'll get better with more experience.

Anyone else think Ferry hit the jackpot? Each game, he gets better. Who can deny 17 points in 22 minutes? It's summer league, but that wizard team has four rotation players on it...

well he's bound to have a rough game at some point, but I think we've seen enough to acknowledge the potential in this guy. I think with the proper coaching this guy could be a major steal.

I think his game seems more suited for the NBA than europe. I am curious what he did at his workout that made everyones jaw drop?

I think a case can be made he will develop more practicing with the team or playing in the D-league than he would in Europe unless he could get a starting spot on a reasonably good European team. The advantage of staying in the states is that he will learn the english basketball and how the game is played on the NBA level.

Seems like a bunch of people are crapping on Gordon in here. He has as many assists as the rest of the team combined (yet people are calling him selfish because he took one bad shot in this game) and is averaging 5 rebounds coming from the PG spot. Having watched him in college I'm disappointed at where his offense is at this point but I don't think he has bad as some of you are making him out to be.

There is a video from a day or so after the draft of Danny Ferry talking about the workout. I think when they were opening some new outdoor courts somewhere.

I think its because he is running the point too much like Ben Gordon. In the 3 games so far, he dosent give up the ball too often. When the point guard stopps passing, the rest of the team does too. I understand summer league and D-League lend to a more selfish style of a game, as guys try to impress with thier scoring, but no one likes a shoot first PG, heck, we can sign AI for rookie money this year if we really wanted that.

In the game I watched (it was the second game I think) I didn't see him take but maybe 2 shots and I watched most of the game. I can't speak for the other two but he was completely a pass-first PG in the game I watched.

Also, he has played the second most minutes of anyone on the team and there are 6 players on the team who have taken more shots than him. He is taking a shot roughly every 5 minutes which is not bad at all for a PG. I think people are way overblowing the selfish thing because of one bad shot.

Now in college, he did like to be the hero alot and that still gets him from time to time but I don't think it's been that bad in the Summer League.

I'm just amazed at what Christian is able to do without knowing any of the langauge. Can you imagine trying to play amongst people who have been playing the game way longer than you, without being able to understand at all what they are saying?

It would be so intimidating. but the fact he's meeting that, says a LOT about his personal character.

He has to adjust to American culture as well. This all would be just a culture shock for anyone, but to take that AND have to play basketball at a high enough level to make the NBA, is a pretty tall order.

Pretty impressive how he is handling himself. Just on a human level.

Basketball too though.
