I think it's easier to find a PG than an SF. Plus Rubio is still here and the Blazers already tried the 2 guard superstar thing and it didn't work. I'll take an Elite SG and elite 2 way SF + Mobley any day over 2 guard lineup. If Mitchell don't work as full-time PS, move him back to SG and get a vet PG.Brown is a very good player (a little undersized at SF). I'd be reluctant to trade Mitchell for him on an expiring contract. He has zero incentive to sign an extension or make a commitment to the team trading for him while he's still supermax eligible.
More importantly, we traded a half a decade's worth of first round picks for Mitchell. Garland and Mobley aren't going anywhere as a result as they're the insurance policy that prevents the Jazz from building a super team with our picks. Also, having Mitchell and/or Brown run an offense full time has been tried. You need an actual PG.
The thing about a Big 3 of Mitchell, Brown, and Mobley, we don't have to keep Mobley at center full time. He can play C when against a weak C and PF when Cavs are playing a good C. Allen will still be on the team. Basically I think that big 3 is more flexible and will take the Cavs far compared to the small guards of Garland and Mitchell with Mobley. It's really not, and shouldn't be.
Funny you mention Garnett. He played 20 seasons in the NBA. Only 4 of those seasons (2000-01 52%; 2011-12 87%; 2012-13 95%; 2013-14 70%) did he spent more than 38% of his time on the court as a center. Evan Mobley has a VAST majority of his skillset, not to mention his body, wasted as a C. On defense, his ability to defend on the perimeter, and as a help defender, is gone as a C. On offense, his movement is wasted.
Also, Mitchell Robinson, Hartenstein, Zubac, Brook Lopez, etc all have bullied Mobley. Not to mention every drive to the rim would put him in actions. Putting him there, especially with the matadors on the perimeter, is like strapping Goldberg to the goal and having the team shoot pucks at him. No thanks.
You’re conveniently omitting being bitch slapped too.We got bounced in the first round because we simply had no depth or spacing. Those two things have been addressed this off-season. No more needs to be said really.
Lets start with the fact your firsst premise is completely wrong. Brown is not a better player than Garland, let alone a much better player. DG is younger. He has a better contract. Brown is a bit of a headcase, DG is a great teammate and locker room guy. This would be a horrible trade and if Altman does this, I am sure there are several board members happy to help him pack up his officeThey trade their 23 year old PG for a top 5 2-way SF. Brown is a much better player than Garland and would make up the big 3 of Mitchell, Brown and Mobley. Allen is backup center. Forgot to include him.

Keep an eye on Diop in the summer league. You never know.I think we still need another big. I'm not sure Damian Jones is on the level that JBB will automatically just play him. We really need a 3rd big they JBB will carve out a role for so they are definitely in the rotation.
Rubio was barely playable last season and if his knee still isn't right this season, he'll be a lot closer to retiring than starting.I think it's easier to find a PG than an SF. That’s all true however with the way the NBA has evolved you arnt winning championships with a PF that can’t shoot, what happens is what happened to us against the Knicks where you struggled to score over 95 points in playoffs game.
The only solution is if we get a center that can shoot to pair with him.
Aaron Gordon just won a ring...
Draymond won the year before that...
Giannis the year before...
I feel like Toppin gave their frontcourt versatility that they lack now. He was a passable defender and rebounder whose 3 point shooting came on last season. But the Knicks, like the Cavs, weren't a great three point shooting team that struggled with spacing.Thibs builds his team around tough nosed front courts. Toppin just doesn't fit the bill. I bet they try to pey somebody like Tobias Harris loose so that his entire front court rotation is an advantage on both ends of the court.
Rebounding was a huge problem. Theoretically if we shoot better then that will naturally narrow the rebounding gap if we play the Knicks again. We got bounced in the first round because we simply had no depth or spacing. Those two things have been addressed this off-season. No more needs to be said really.
Having Sexton as the primary ball handler destroyed Love's trade value, and if that had been an old school big like Boogie Cousins, I have zero doubt that Sexton would've gotten tuned up in the locker room.
The duel of Brown and Tatum brought the Celtics nearly to the finals while Mitchell and Garland got bounced in the first round. An elite 2 way SF will always be more valuable in this league than a small PG who can't play defense but can shoot 3s except Curry who is the greatest shooter of all time and a top 3 PG all-time. Look at history.Lets start with the fact your firsst premise is completely wrong. Brown is not a better player than Garland, let alone a much better player. DG is younger. He has a better contract. In what world is Allen a backup? Dude is a year off of an all-star selection and still a top 7 C in the league. This is a pretty bad take with a really flawed understanding of basketball
