The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why is everyone who has questions about Brian Hoyer being vilified?

Having questions about Hoyer does not equal pushing for Manziel or somehow being anti-Browns. It's just an observation on Brian Hoyer. Nothing more.

So far we've seen about as much of Brian Hoyer as the NFL did of Matt Flynn before he was signed by Seattle. He left quite a few yards on the field on Sunday, but did enough to win. He's most likely the best option to win this season but so far it looks like something is going to have to be done to address the position long term.

You shut your mouth.

The Browns won, and we've put up with this shit for way too long that you should just be happy!

I just wanted to use that gay dude and pussy metaphor... I do think fans should learn to breath in the sweet scent of victory every so often and really enjoy its warmth surrounding us. Especially if there has been a dry spell for this long... Not enjoying it kinda... gay.

Really giving Hoyer credit for the offense is misplaced. He hasn't fucked up which is all we can ask as he just really isn't all that talented. I believe he is benefiting from a strong run game and smart play calling.

So how about him being 2-0 in games he played from start to finish last year? Strong run game last year? Luck?

At some point it has to be Hoyer that the team looks better than any other qb in the last 15 years wearing the orange helmet.

Not fucking up is a talent at qb in the nfl. Making the right calls at the line is a talent.

He might not have the strongest arm by any means or run like the wind, but there is a reason derrick anderson failed and Gordon doesnt play QB.

Ya, I don't buy that for a second. If it's not that much to ask, we wouldn't have gone thru 20 QBs in 15 years. How many QBs have 0 interceptions this year?[

Manziel hasnt thrown a pick, so there is atleast 1 other qb in the league.

Dangerous thing to be content with, IMO.

Not at all, if he continues winning, then we have to stay the course.

If we start losing, we can try Manziel.

If Manziel looks atrocious, then we can draft a qb....again.

But the Hoyer hate seems crazy to me. He is winning, He is playing mistake free ball. 3 of the last 10 super bowls were won with qb's playing that style. I have no problem with pumping up the defense and other offensive weapons if Hoyer is able to use them properly.

This AZ guy just doesn't give up does he. Seriously just stfu. And all the brian hoyer hate I see on social media and what not is making me nauseas. The dude is living out his dream quarterbacking his home town team, he's succeeding, he's an all around good guy/likable person, and people can't do anything but talk trash. God damn. And btw, hoyer is our starting QB for the next 10 years (barring major injury) so get used to it

Well, let's try to keep it civil everybody. B00bie has always been a bit of a contrarian... Let's try to argue the issue not the person.

I definitely am getting tired of the Hoyer hate, but the fact that even ESPN is writing complimentary articles on him shows me the tides are turning. If Hoyer gets Cameron back, he can finally face defenses that aren't doubling his average receiving corps.

Are you 150% sure?

Hate is a pretty strong word. Basically it's a bullshit term for what I'm saying about him.

I'm just not going to make him out to be something he isn't.

Russell Wilson isn't just a game-manager. He was a top 10 QB last season in multiple categories.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend the Browns will continue winning while Hoyer provides below average production from the QB position.

There is obvious room for improvement, which is the X factor. If he shows improvement and overcomes the league's inevitable adjustment to his style down the road, then the Browns may have their answer.

I am surprised b00b didn't go on one of his whole page rants.

You are going to fit in well here.

I mean, come on man. I can't even defend you on that one.

I guys all we can do is wait and see:)

Shouldn't we be looking at more than just 'if he continues winning' when discussing this from a long term perspective? Does the level of QB play that's been shown so far lead people to believe that winning is sustainable?

Again I will state that Hoyer is almost certainly the best option on the roster, but to say he's played mistake free ball is not true. He hasn't turned the ball over (although his int rate as a starter with the Browns also does not look to be sustainable) but he has taken costly sacks (Pitt) and badly missed receivers. The completion percentage and yards per attempt both paint him in an unfavorable light despite playing two porous defenses.

What's wrong with saying Hoyer should continue to start until a better option presents itself, be that through the draft, free agency, a trade, or whatever.

Basically, I agree that Hoyer may not be a long-term solution and quarterback, and we should absolutely always be open to adding a guy who can be a franchise QB. That said, we're probably not going to find that guy between weeks two and three, so I'm totally fine with rolling with Hoyer and seeing if he can continue to keep us either winning or competitive week in and week out. Manziel isn't ready and Hoyer gives us the best chance to win right now. Until that changes, he's the guy.

Guy, you need to calm down. I don't think anyone, especially b00b is denying he is living out his dream and winning... or that he is a likeable guy. It is very legitimate to raise questions about how long he can sustain this. He has thrown some pretty shitty balls and the Steelers dropped some INTs against him. Let's at least look at it in depth. He has done some great and a few "eh" things so far. Luckily, for us, the great has outweighed the "eh." Hell, you could argue he should be 2-0 right now.

But calm down with the personal attacks, my lord. Other people can have firm opinions opposite of yours.
