This isn't a trade idea, but I didn't think it belonged in Cavs Talk.

But what would it take to get Robert Swift? He is currently a RFA with Oklahoma City. I can't remember off the top of my head, but his QO is something like $3.5M should he accept it.

Oklahoma City has a glut of big men and the injury prone Swift doesn't seem to fit in with them, in my eyes...

Centers...
Johan Petro [7'0", 247 lbs]
Mouhamed Sene [6'11", 230 lbs]

Power Forwards...
Chris Wilcox [6'10", 235 lbs]
Nick Collison [6'10", 255 lbs]
Joe Smith [6'10", 225 lbs]
D.J. White [6'9", 251 lbs]

Unsigned Rookies...
Serge Ibaka, PF [6'10", 220 lbs] <1st Rounder>
DeVon Hardin, C [6'11", 235 lbs] <2nd Rounder>

If we could somehow sign him without OKC matching, it could have our frontcourt looking like this...

C- Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Robert Swift
PF- Anderson Varejao, Ben Wallace, JJ Hickson

  • What would it take to get him?
  • How much of our MLE could we use to pry him away?
  • Is he worth the risk of offering a decent contract [at least one larger than his QO] so OKC doesn't match?

I heard Oklahoma wanted to keep Swift if he was recovered from his injury. They may let him go if they didn't want to match the full MLE, but that's a bit much for a kid who is injury prone.

I wouldn't mind trying to grab Petro somehow in a three-way deal if Swift was not available.

only if he covers some of those awful frattoos up.

I don't know about the full MLE for him, but if he were possible I would take him. He gets injured a lot, but he is a project in the making if he stays healthy.

Looking at the tats I want to get a pen and try and make it through the maze on his arm there, looks a lot more challenging than the placemats I used to draw on.

Psychotic used one phrase that immediately made me cross Swift out, "injury prone". With the aging Z and Wallace (and their back spasms), why take on this guy too? Find me a cheap veteran big who can defend and maybe put a few points up; but most importantly one who can give us nearly a full season.

Frye would be perfect, no clue what it would take to get him though.

His full sleeve on the left arm isn't that bad, however the random array of brainless work on his right arm is annoying.

Get him, don't get him, just want to see a complete roster in Cleveland.

i would prefer him as the bassist for my country and western band.

He would be useful but only on the cheap, too much of an injury risk

Would a deal similar to Sasha's be enough to pry him away? Say a three year deal worth $12-15M. And I believe that the 3rd year in Sasha's deal isn't guaranteed.

  • So would it be a good deal for us to offer a Pavlovic-like deal, using part of our MLE?
  • Would OKC match if we offered such a deal?
  • Is it too much since he's injury prone?

I wouldnt mind taking a shot at him, but the full mle is waaaay too much.

swift has only played 72 games in his 3 year career

I don't know how fully his stats reflect his usefullness on the court, but if there is nothing more to the guy, i wouldn't even offer him what OKC is...

no that guy is injury prone like crazy, he hasnt even played a full nba season 82 games with the 3 years combined, no, i would not want that guy on our team, waste of money

The Cavs are third in the league in payroll, and after we finish up the negotiations with Delonte, we stand to pass Dallas to be second to the Knicks in payroll. Getting into a bidding war for a guy who has never been able to stay healthy isn't the best move for a franchise in the position Cleveland finds itself. We know there is another trade on the way before the deadline, and I think we can do far better than Swift.

Plus, he is a ginger. Around these parts, we don't take too kindly to rumors about gingers joining this team.
