Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

Rabman, we need an update. I'm starting to wonder whether the T-Wolves and the Kings are going to sink below the Cavs before the end of the year.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

1.Cleveland (11-47)
2.Minnesota (13-46)
3.Sacramento (14-42)
4.Washington (15-42)
5.Toronto (16-43)

Tight race. Go Cavs.

Shit, we can't be winning too many games. I want 25% chance for that #1 pick! Please B-Diddy play hard and lose games for us :D

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

We are getting too close for comfort. Are we going to pull a 2009 Browns and start winning at the end of the year to screw up the draft?

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

This is typical Cleveland sports, as the Browns are notorious for often doing the same thing.

The Cavs are going to win a bunch of meaningless games to close out the season and most likely fall out of last place in doing so. The rational is will be that some how winning will be a good spring board into next season, but all it will do is cost draft positioning most likely.

Yes the classic "This is huge for momentum into next season" line. Worked well with the Browns this year. :chuckles:

The Cavs last month or so schedule doesn't help our cause at all, especially with the way we've been playing as of late... Only good thing is that 7 of our last 10 are away where we're 3-27...

Fri 01 @ Washington
Sun 03 @ New York
Tue 05 vs Charlotte
Wed 06 @ Toronto
Fri 08 vs Chicago
Sat 09 @ Milwaukee
Mon 11 @ Detroit
Wed 13 vs Washington

Updated it. Feel free to take a look...

I hate myself.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

Hopefully New Jersey and Toronto start to win games so we can have 2 picks in the top 6.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

I hate to say it at this point, but this team is starting to play, and we have many home games against teams as bad as us. They might accidentially win 20 games.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

It's funny because I tweeted about something like this last night. We've had a ton of injuries throughout the year and we also had to figure out who we were obviously... we are starting to play well as a team and I just have that gut feeling that the Cavs are going to start winning some ball games.

Look on the bright side... we have another lottery pick, but also if we don't pick #1 overall, we can nab my dude DW instead of Kyrie 8) I never liked the name Kyrie anyways... what is it, Kyle?

We just won 3 out of 5, including two wins over contenders and our schedule is quite a bit easier the rest of the way than it's been the last two months and we have multiple starters playing the best basketball of their careers lately (JJ, Sessions). There's a decent chance we fall (rise?) out of last place.

Of course, the last time I thought we were showing signs turning it around, we went on the longest losing streak in league history and lost about half of our team to injuries. More losses certainly improve odds, but we're nearly certain to get 2 of the top 10 picks and the team with the worst record has a better chance at the 4th pick than they do for the 1st pick. In 07, Memphis had the worst record and got the 4th pick.

What is ultimately really better, though. To have JJ return to looking like a bust, thus lock in the worst record or have JJ continue to look like a potential emerging all star caliber player, win a few games and risk moving up a spot or two in the standings? The target is Irving, yet there's no guarantee we get the first pick and no guarantee that Irving won't stay in school because of a combination of his missing most of the season, the pending lockout and the chance to play a full season for Coach K and with Austin Rivers next year. He has a chance to watch a national championship this year, but a chance to participate in one next year if he stays.

What I'm not sure of is do players drafted this year have a chance to sign their rookie contract under the old CBA before a lockout happens. If that's possible, it may draw out players who otherwise might wait a year rather than risk losing a season of development because of a lockout.

Re: The Cleveland Cavaliers Magic Number Thread for Most Ping Pong Balls in May 2011.

What it ultimately comes down to is money. Irving's gonna get paid, and he's gonna get paid a lot. If his family is in a good situation, there is a POSSIBILITY that he may stay, but if they aren't in the greatest financial position, he's coming out.

Same goes for everyone else.

the team with the worst record has a better chance at the 4th pick than they do for the 1st pick. In 07, Memphis had the worst record and got the 4th pick.

Is this the rule or exception? Sounds like the exception, to me.
