The Connor Shaw thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What happens if Shaw greatly outplays both Manziel and Hoyer on Sunday? Do we give up on Manziel? Do we give Connor Shaw an opportunity to compete with whoever is brought in here next year?

My guess? Shaw was an exemplary teammate and QB on the practice field and in the locker-room. They probably see him as a long-term developmental type of guy who doesn't fret about being in the back seat. If he happens to surprise the NFL, I'm guessing that'd be a very pleasant surprise for the Browns.

I could see best-case scenario he has a Thaddeus Lewis-like game and shows he is worth a roster spot. But even as a South Carolina fan, I don't see him playing very well. I foresee something closer to Gradkowski's game with us, and that pains me to say.

Either way, I'm pumped to wear my Shaw jersey on Sunday. It'll be the first time all year I wear a jersey for a player on the active roster!

exactly, but also it wouldnt take a whole lot for shaw to out play manziel, and my thought is he did so in the preseason.

i fully expect shaw to be back next year. I keep saying it but i would love hoyer back on the team again either as a continued starter that teaches, or a backup. but the only way that happens is if the browns get rid of manziel

Only the Browns. Watching youtube highlights of Shaw to figure out who the hell is our starting quarterback for the last game of the year.

I really hope he can pull something out of his ass and ram it up the Raven's.

I remember us having a discussion pre-draft on Shaw. I was interested in getting Shaw and having him claim a long term backup role. I think he may do just that. His grittyness is pretty astounding. The guy seems like a worker who will sacrifice what it takes to win. (Even his health).

I'm not expecting a ton from the guy, but I honestly expect him to significantly out play Manziel. And that would be very valuable information going into the off season.

I know this is cliche to say, but I can honestly say I have never seen a harder working football player than Connor Shaw, at the college or pro level. If you look at where he was from his sophomore year to his senior year, he worked his ass off to became a respectable QB. One could argue he was the most overlooked player in the SEC. Just go back to that game last season against Mizzou to see the kind of heart he has. Not many players would play injured the way he was. Complete opposite of Stephen Garcia.

Unfortunately, I don't see long-term success for him at the NFL level. He could overcome it in college at times with that hard-work and grit, but at this level he has to have the talent to win as well. I'm not sure he has very many tools that will translate for him.

We'll see what Shaw brings to the table sunday but from what I know about him and how he goes about his business, it seems like his ceiling is Brian Hoyer.
