The decline of JJ Hickson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I liken JJ to Drew Gooden. A journeyman who teams overpay for because of flashy numbers and just hope that his defense and bb IQ will improve. When they inevitably don't...they trade/don't re-sign him, and the cycle continues.

These guys aren't winning players..

They are not completely useless if you got a big hole in your front court rotation and you need someone to play minimally acceptable minutes in the regular season. But yeah, both of those guys lack the intensity and focus to play reasonable playoff minutes.

“For us to make a jump next season, JJ can’t be our starting center,’’ Olshey said, referencing the Blazers’ 47.4 points allowed in the paint per game, an NBA high. “I’m not saying he can’t be part of the roster. But we need to find a starting-caliber center who protects the rim and gets defensive rebounds at a high rate and that has a presence. And we have to do a better job at defending the paint. So you have to ask: Is it likely there is enough minutes to commit the kind of dollars JJ will command, when clearly there are other positions that need to be upgraded? Probably not.’’

i thought this was interesting...not exactly a ringing endorsement by Portland's GM.

Well he's right, Hickson is not a center..

they tried to trade him in February and couldn't even get a late first rounder even though he's averaging a double double this season. him playing out of position is only part of the problem in my opinion

The Blazers have a grand total of 3 players with double-digit PER's in this game. And they shat all over the Lakers to the tune of 69 points in the first half.
