i still dont think Melo should be able to play, but thats just me. if you dont get voted in by the fans...let alone other NBA coaches you shouldnt be able to get in due to someone elses injury.

Carmelo Anthony is going to the NBA All-Star Game after all.

The Denver Nuggets forward, the league's leading scorer, and the Dallas Mavericks' Josh Howard were both named by NBA commissioner David Stern as injury replacements to the Western Conference team. They will replace Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets and Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz for the Feb. 18 game in Las Vegas.

Anthony had been left off the West roster, and there was speculation that he was being quietly punished for the punch he threw in a brawl against the New York Knicks that cost him a 15-game suspension. But Stern said he would not hold the incident against Anthony when choosing subs for Yao and Howard.

West All-Star head coach Mike D'Antoni will determine which player on his roster will replace Yao in the starting lineup.

Re: Melo and Howard Get The Nod For All-Star Game

Very happy for Josh Howard.

How do you figure? Melo definently deserved to be in this game and it was a shame he didn't get voted in.

They corrected that injustice.

Yeah that's pretty much BS from the NBA fanbase to not vote in Carmelo this season. The dude is just a beast out there this year, even with Allen by his side, he is still able to score near 30 a game.

Obviously his fight earlier in the season was the reason why he wasn't chosen as a backup all star to begin with, but regardless of his dumb actions he is definatly having an all star year.

Melo's a gangsta idiot. I don't like him. I would have been happy to see him shunned from this game for being a cowardly piece of trash.

Just my opinion though.

I could see where people didn't want to vote him in.But he deserves to be there no matter what happened.

Steve Nash will be sitting out of the All-Star Game due to an Injury.

I can see Deron Williams replacing Nash...

AI might be out too, Kevin Martin could be a selection should they need a guard.

Possible replacements for Iverson and Nash are Okur, Williams, Brand and Randolph.

Iverson was chosen as a reserve to the Western Conference squad for Sunday's game in Las Vegas, but the Denver Nuggets guard has missed seven of his last eight games after spraining his right ankle Jan. 29. He aggravated the injury Feb. 6 against New Orleans.

The showcase game will now be missing two of the league's premier guards. Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns withdrew Monday because of a shoulder inflammation.

Also Tuesday, the Nets said star point guard Jason Kidd will miss the next two games because of a back strain. The Nets had no information on whether he'll play in Las Vegas.

Iverson won't play against Minnesota on Wednesday night in the Nuggets' last game before the All-Star break. He hopes to return Feb. 20 at San Antonio when the regular season resumes.

Teammate Carmelo Anthony, the league's leading scorer, was selected by commissioner David Stern last week as an injury replacement for the West All-Stars.

Iverson has averaged 26.8 points and 7.8 assists in 20 games for the Nuggets since being acquired from the 76ers on Dec. 19. For the year, his 28.7-point average is tied for third in the league.

"I'm very disappointed that I can't play right now," Iverson said in a statement released by the team. "I was really looking forward to representing the Nuggets in my first All-Star Game with the West. However, I need to make sure my ankle is 100 percent for the stretch run."

Iverson is an eight-time NBA All-Star who earned MVP honors at the 2001 and '05 games. He was selected as a starter by fans seven times during his decade in Philadelphia.

"I want to thank the Western Conference coaches for selecting me and my teammates and coaching staff for putting me in a position to succeed," he said. "I couldn't have made it without them. I also want to thank all the fans who have supported me and that voted for me as a starter. I wish I could play for you all."
