The Jimmy Haslam Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well, maybe Randy can float the paychecks if Jimmy gets his assets frozen. I'd hate to lose guys like Haden because Jimmy got greedy.

Only reinforces how bizarre the move to give Banner all authority over personnel decisions, and the hiring of Mike Lombardi as GM.

Be careful what you wish for, I guess.

Are you saying you want an owner making personnel decisions?

I sure hope not....

This is my biggest fear under a potential Mark Cuban-led ownership group.

Brittany Griner would make a great tight end (in more ways than one, supposedly).

Jimmys going down. He needs to excuse himself from the day to day operations of the Browns or he's going to drag their name down with him. Get this jackass as far away from Cleveland as possible.

Pretty much sums it up. He is going to forego his primary leadership position of the Browns one way or the other. Its not a matter of if, but when. The only hope is that Banner (who is a Haslam guy, obviously) can keep the ship afloat for a time being.

I don't think this is really all that big of a deal since the front office and coaching staff is already in place. Banner was likely making all the decisions anyway. If the team is successful and a new owner is forced to come in, I doubt he would change much just because they weren't his guys. If the team wins I doubt much changes.

My biggest concern would be Haslam staying on as owner but having his assets frozen. If that happens I guess the team would hit the salary floor and then just stop spending.

No, absolutely not. I'm just saying his decision-making is questionable at this point, whether it's with Pilot J or the Browns so far. I know that he hasn't been charged with anything yet, but the FBI and IRS don't conduct these sort of investigations on company like Pilot unless there are serious issues.

I guess I've just been very skeptical of Haslam as an NFL owner with the hiring of Banner and just handing over total control, and simultaneously bringing a guy like Lombardi who is universally unwanted by other NFL teams. Obviously, they deserve a shot to get the job done, but that he is now (probably) involved in serious fraud only reinforces the questionable decision-making in my mind.

Again, just really skeptical about him leading this organization now.

Am I the only one that is beyond thrilled he brought in Banner at this point? He's a vet in the front office & has to know how to run a franchise at least somewhat. If Haslam has to keep the Browns on the backburner while he has to take care of this stuff, I'm glad we have somebody who knows what he's doing running the franchise.

I do think that its good Banner has that previous experience and don't doubt that he's a smart man, but I can't make a real judgement on him until we see how things go when they're on the field.

I certainly am not thrilled he hired Mike Lombardi or that he'll seemingly have so much control over personnel decisions given his lack of football experience. Chud hiring was ok, but we'll see how that goes.

Bottom line, I'm skeptical because our owner is being investigated for fraud, Banner is making personnel decisions, and Mike Lombardi is our GM.

If he has his assets frozen, how are we going to sign the draft picks?

Also, any chance of the Browns as an organization getting fined/hit with sanctions/forfeit draft picks ?

I doubt they'd hit the team with sanctions that forfeit draft picks over the actions of the owner in a non-football business.

Granted, I am an outsider, but I don't see how the NFL could punish the Browns here. In fact, I think they'd be forced to help them.

It isn't like Lerner can just put the Browns on E-Bay and sell them. Any possible owner is vetted by the league, thoroughly. A sale to a criminal really reflects worse on the NFL than the Browns.

If they punish the Browns they are basically saying, "It's our job to vet possible owners, but if we screw that up, we're going to punish you for it." It's more likely the NFL says, "We screwed up here, and we have to help the Browns find a new one."

I also would bet they scrutinize any new owner a lot closer now.

"But the road to fuel industry dominance also could be bumpy, as the next three years would prove. In July 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor announced that Pilot Corp. had agreed to pay $720,000 in back wages and damages to 110 assistant managers in a case that centered on how to interpret which employees were eligible for overtime pay.

That fall, Hurricane Katrina roared ashore on the Gulf Coast and severely disrupted the nation's fuel system. Pilot came close to running dry, and at one point sold premium gasoline at regular unleaded prices because it had run out of regular unleaded.

But harrowing as Katrina might have been, the bigger impact to the company may have come three years later

when hurricanes Gustav and Ike came ashore, disrupting refineries and again squeezing fuel supplies across the country.

Gas prices spiked, and at the stations where fuel was still available — in Knoxville, for example, several Weigel's stores ran dry — consumers fumed at paying more than $4 a gallon to fill their tanks.

Regulators quickly began to investigate, and in early 2009 Pilot settled price-gouging allegations in three states,

including a $100,000 fine paid to settle a Kentucky case and a $20,000 fine in Georgia."

Not paying your own employees overtime? Price gouging? Anti-trust disputes?

This guy is all about the money and will cut corners anywhere to bolster his profits even though he's already the most profitable diesel provider in the country. He doesn't give a rats ass about you or the Cleveland Browns he just wants to line his pockets by any means necessary.

It's troubling for me that he didn't step down as CEO yesterday as that tells me he's arrogant enough to think he's going to skate by on these allegations.

This already has put a bad light on the organization but that's not good enough for Jimmy, he wants everyone to suffer along with him. This season is going to be the Jimmy show.

Start barking Jimmy, you're going to the real dog pound.
