The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Can't believe we're waiting for Episode 6 already.

Anyone else pissed we haven't seen more Oberyn? Have they even called this fucker "The Red Viper" yet? Dude is a legendary warrior and we have hardly seen that get any play at all. Great actor, great character, being way underplayed. I know we didn't see him that much in ASOS either, but damn.

Figure he dies in Episode 8, so hopefully we see a ton of him coming up.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

Meh, that's a weak spoiler. Not hard to see that is where that plot point is going.

Tywin dying though, :chuckles: LOL. Epic spoiler.

Ya I suppose it is, though minutes earlier they were talking about being excited that Arya and Sansa were both heading towards the Eyrie and could possibly meet each other. Oh wellll.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

They have not called him the Red Viper yet as far as I know, but episode eight is titled The Mountain and the Viper, so I assume it will come up at some point. He'll probably mention it when he tells
Tyrion that it could just as easily be him in the cell for killing Joffrey
given his history.

Re: The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread

So she wants Sansa to marry her cousin?

Also I'm confused, does Oberyn and Cersei have a kid together?

Yes, as she is the presumed heir to the North.

Also I'm confused, does Oberyn and Cersei have a kid together?

Oh dear god no. Cersei was just asking about his kids and basically trying to schmooze up to him before the trial since Oberyn is a judge. She was relating to his quest for vengeance by basically saying "hey I lost a loved one too, and I am also looking for vengance."

This wasn't uncommon in the world the books/show takes place in. Siblings could not marry (unless they were Targaryens), but cousins were acceptable. Tywin Lannister's wife was a cousin of his.

No. In season two, Tyrion agreed to send Cercei's daughter (who she had with Jaime, although obviously the girl was believed to be Robert's) Myrcella to Dorne as a gesture of good will (hostage) to be betrothed to Prince Doran's (Oberyn's older brother and the leader of Dorne) youngest son, Trystane. This was done to seal an alliance between Dorne and the Iron Throne, mostly to ensure that they didn't join up with Stannis or one of the other rebels.

That was the girl Oberyn was talking about. He also mentioned that he had eight daughters of his own, all of them bastards. They are known as the Sand Snakes in Dorne.

She was talking about her daughter though, so why is she with Oberyn? I don't remember this, but maybe they explained it on the show.

Oh, I can see how you got that impression. Way back in like, season 2, Tyrion arranged to send Cersei's daughter to Dorne in a political move that is somewhat common. If you saw the "previously on" section they showed her crying on a boat as she departed.

Fwiw those are the only 2 remaining children of Cersei. King Tommen and Princess Myrcella. All 3 of her kids are/were also Jamie's.

Is she arranged to marry someone in Dorne or just sort of chilling over there?

I wish I was Tommen and got to marry Natalie Dormer.

Yes...Jack Brickman just covered all of this not sure if you saw his post.

Myrcella to Dorne as a gesture of good will (hostage) to be betrothed to Prince Doran's (Oberyn's older brother and the leader of Dorne) youngest son, Trystane. Yeah she is arranged to be married to the son of the head/king/prince of Dorne, who is Oberyn's older brother Doran (so she is arranged to marry Oberyn's nephew). At the moment though she is just chilling and getting to know him as they are so young.

She is actually a little older than Tommen though, and under Dornish laws of inheritance, she is actually the heir to the throne, not Tommen. Though if Dorne declared her as such it would be war.

I don’t know how to do the spoiler tags, but damn it I wish I hadn't read qtips spoiler haha. Oh well I don’t really mind the spoilers too much, hell I like the insight most of the time. Just not in this case I really like umm them.

Jack, just sack up and admit it was a spoiler when you mentioned Stoneheart :chuckles:. Anybody who watches both shows could easily figure it out.

As far as the sword being attached to the arm, I really don't feel like it would be that hard to use. That's just me. I don't think you'd lose any mobility. Really the only thing you couldn't do was use both hands or switch from hand to hand. Something Jaime can't do anymore anyway. I really don't get the "can't turn the sword" comment. Why not? It's just a different arm motion.

As a fairly successful amateur saber fencer I can assure you it would make you a terrible fighter. Much of the actual sword angle is done with the wrist. Obviously fighting against other nerds in a gym is different than fighting in a medieval war, but perhaps think of it as dribbling a basketball while wearing a splint on your wrist. Its pretty obvious from even an amateur POV that its a hopeless cause at "expert" levels. His timing might be the same, but he would be incredibly inaccurate with the sword.

Now, stick a dagger Merle-style on there and maybe we're talking. Or just have it be a really good shield hand. I assume using a shield doesn't use the wrist.
