The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Interesting that Varys has taken over for Illyrio. Smart where the show is concerned.

Honestly, once Aegon was pretty much outed as a Blackfyre by every fan who noticed, his story got much less interesting to me. If he truly is just in there to cause more turmoil yet doesn't drastically affect the outcome, I'm fine with that storyline getting streamlined.

Not too worried about the Northern storyline, because with Bran being cut and them seemingly extending Jon's storyline to fill out the season, good chance they bring in all that stuff next season. Don't know if they'll add Manderly though. Feel like they might repurpose another Northerner we already know. Not sure who that would be.

The Sansa stuff is actually gonna be exciting because everything will be entirely new, and I started to get interested in where they were taking her end of last season. Starting to become more of a player.

Really bummed about cutting the Ironborn storyline. I'm so intrigued about what's happening with Euron and Victarion in the books, and I feel like we're not gonna see it play out.

Also, haven't heard one peep about Sam's storyline yet. I'm really anxious to see where that goes beyond AFFC.

I'm re-reading AFFC and ADWD right now (audiobooks using the combined chronological timeline) and I totally forgot how good they were. Such a more interesting read the second time through. I have much less fear of the upcoming season than I used to.

Really interesting bit with Littlefinger and Sansa. He tells her she needs to take revenge and they later show the arms of Arryn marching... is Sansa taking the Lady SH role?

That's a really intriguing idea. Would be a nice variation from the book, and help build the feeling that all is not well for the Lannisters and KL.

I honestly have no idea what the hell is going to happen this season. Cercei's arc is pretty blatant, as are Arya's and Dany's. Beyond that, we're in a lot of uncharted territory here. Jaime and Bronn in Dorne. Jon going to Hardhome (probably). Sansa perhaps rallying the lords of the Vale to war.

Should be interesting. It looks like some major departures from the books, though.

Just a thought about how the now detached Sansa story is possibly unfolding as well as how the Northern plot isn't developing as written:

With Sansa possibly playing the role of a quasi-Stoneheart (but with an army at her disposal) seeking revenge, is it possible that she assumes, in part, the role of Manderly in allying with Stannis to destroy the Boltons and Freys? If she wants revenge, Winterfell is the logical target.

If they decide not to pursue the Davos/Manderly/Rickon thread, it would be logical that Sansa is the only available Stark which Stannis can reinstate at Winterfell. They appear to be natural allies given the show's evolving dynamics and this development would not be contrary to Littlefinger's plans for Sansa.

I'm still salty we won't get a LSH reveal. I remember that moment in the book had such a big impact on me. I would have loved to see it appear on screen.

So I wouldn't be surprised if these are all cut: LSH, Quentyn and a lot of the Dornish subplots, anything associated with Aegon, the Greyjoys...It hurts to be typing this.

I feel like such a book snob. I'll still love every minute of GOT though.

Re: Sansa fulfilling the vengeance driven killing machine

I would like it if it is more than simply LF manipulating Sansa. I would love Sansa to continue showing agency and to make some of her own power plays. Keep LF on his toes, so to speak.

Ugh. Quentyn Martell. I wish I had the hours of my life back I spent reading those chapters. So glad they are slicing that out of the show.

Can somebody give me a good argument as to what that storyline provided to the overall series?

My heart is not really in this one, but I'll give it a go.

Quentyn's importance to Doran's master plan, and the repercussions that his death will have on said plan could be hugely important for all we know. Just because D&D have seemingly cut out Aegon, that does not mean that he will not be important in ASOIAF. Quentyn's death at the hands of Dany's dragons seems like it could be a turning point for Dorne to become fully committed to Aegon, along with all the other plot elements that goes along with that (Arienne trying to marry him, sand snakes joining the small council possibly causing dysfunction from within, etc) We know that he brought it upon himself, but the Dornish won't see it that way. It may seem pointless now, only because we don't know what comes next.

I suppose on a surface level it gave readers a glimpse into what the outside world thinks of Dany (though I think Tyrion's chapters do a better job of it), and also we get a commoner's POV of things in a way, because they have to pretend to be sellswords. We see the chaos that Dany left behind in the other cities she conquered.

yup, that's all I got for this one.

I hope you're right. Because if the whole point was to fill like 6 chapters of this dude traipsing across Essos without any real meaningful interaction with Dany and then just gets roasted by a dragon, I'm gonna be even more annoyed. Lol

Remember that Quentyn also pledged Dorne's armies to the Tattered Prince in his campaign to get vengeance on Pentos. That seems like something that might be important later.

Freed the dragons... which will be replaced by the giant harpy statue just falling down and breaking open the catacombs, I'd surmise... per the trailer.

This would be fucking stupid.

Well, Martin's publisher has officially confirmed that they have no plans to release Winds in 2015. Sigh.

I think this is a misnomer. Most sites corrected their post to say that there are no "plans" to release this year. Doesn't mean it can't happen.

In 2011, they had no plans to release ADWD at this point in the year. Then in March they announced that the book was done and released it in July.

I just think that they are doing everything and anything to temper expectation. I fully expect when it's finally done that they just announce it suddenly and that it will be released a couple months after that.

That is what Martin said would happen. Said he doesn't play games.
