How long have you been a fan?
How did you find out about this site?
Favorite Cavaliers player(s)?
Favorite Cavalier moment?
I've been here at RCF for a long long time ....from the beginning pretty much, but have never really introduced myself....
My name is Dan, I'm 43 ...married, four kids. Oldest daughter was a Cavs Girl but decided not to join the group this year to devote time to teaching dance at her new studio. My kids go girl, boy, girl, boy ...20,18,13,6.
I currently live in Erie, Pa. Have been a Cavs fan since right before the Miracle at Richfield season. I grew up as a kid as a Buffalo Braves fan ..the Braves of Bob McAdoo, Jim McMillian, Gar Heard, Randy Smith and Ernie Degregorio. Then I got the Cavalier bug, after always following the Indians and Browns ..it was a natural progression to then support the Cavs fulltime, after Buffalo moved to San Diego.
So, my Cavs love affair all started with the Jim Chones, Dwight Davis, Luke Witte, Jimmy Cleamons, Dick Snyder, Jim Brewer, Footsie Walker, Austin Carr, Campy Russell, Nate Thurmound Cavs teams ...and I've stuck with them through the fun years, and the all too frequent torturous seasons of Ted Stepien et al ... ASs a kid I remember litening to Pete Franklin ripping Ted Stepien on a nightly bases ....I remember going up to the Coliseum and watching the most exciting basketball, at the best pure basketball facility in the world. The Gund doesn't hold anything over on the Coliseum in Richfield ...it was a great place to watch a game ...and our crowds provided the loudest, most rabid and intense home court advantage in all of sports. Something that I don't think I will ever see duplicated in my lifetime ...
I found out about this site from a little message left announcing it's creation on the CavsTalk BB ..that never really gained a large fan base like we have here ....I really appreciate the intelligent dialogue that we have here, asd opposed to the juvenile rants you see on the Cavs official board ,,,which is the more annoying in content than informative.
My favorite player right now on the Cavs would have to be the most obvious.....Lebron. But, Anderson Varejao is one of my favs as well. My all-time favorite Cav is Austin Carr ....although Mark Price and World B. Free were up there close in the times they played for us.
My favorite Cavs moment had to be the Miracle at Richfield experience ....nothing ...no moment in any sport that I've followed in life came close to the electricity and intensity that I experienced during that time ...it was plkain and simple the most amazing sports experience, as a fan, I've ever experienced ...or ever will experience I'm sure. It was one of those periods that can never be duplicated ...pure magic ....the Cavs just captivated the entire community. People that never followed sports, were sucked into the experience.
On a personal note, I played basketball though high school and into college. Have been a head coach in basketball at the high school level, and just finished a four year stint as an assistant with Penn State's basketball team at the Erie, Pa branch (Behrend campus). Basketball has always been my lifeblood as a sport ....and have a couple close firends within the Cavalier basketball family that I got to know through summer camps that I've assisted in and they have reciprocated for years ... and I get a few tips from time to time ..but i don't bug them, I just get little tidbits that are offered ...so I'l pass my info along when i get it ....
