The worst team in the league

Varejao: 14th best PF at best.

I looked through a list of PFs and found 14 PFs unquestionably better than him. This does not even count guys who are slightly better, equal, or slightly worse than AV. I may have even looked over some.
He is a top 14 PF at best. If you rank him at center he is even lower.

Mo Williams: 23rd best PG at best.

This also does not include guys who are slightly better, slight worse or equal to Mo.

Jamison: I am not even gonna bother looking but probably around 19th at best.

Parker and Moon are near the bottom of the barrel at their positions. JJ Hickson is probably in the bottom quarter of PFs. Gibson is also near the bottom of PGs.

Us being the worst in the league is brutal to watch, but it's a blessing in disquise. What else could this team do, be mediocre? That gets us nowhere.

there you go...is anyone still going to claim this team has any talent worth keeping?...at any position? it's really a crisis situation they have with this roster. to be honest, it may take over 7 years to purge them all from the roster and replenish this team with real talent.

it's not about lack of effort...it's a complete lack of talent. even if these players tried their absolute best, they'd still barely pull off 35 wins.

35 wins would more likely than not, put us above at least 1-2 teams in the east. I'm not trying to be a homer, because I know we're far from being a GOOD roster but I think we're better off where we are now than Detroit, Memphis, Sacramento or Philly. Even beyond talent, these teams suck and spend more money/are locked into contracts we aren't. Again, our roster is bad, I get it. I just don't think we're the worst. JJ, Andy, Jamison, and Mo are all talented (well, maybe not so much JJ) and could definitely hold value to a team in NEED of their skills. I'm still sticking to my opinion that although we aren't that good, we aren't as bad as we're playing.

Memphis..really? I'd take every single memphis starter right now and put them on this cavs team over our starters. Every one of them.

We are indeed terrible, ladies and gents.... Our jerseys even make us look that much worse...

The only cool part about this is it reminds me of my childhood and always being excited for the NBA draft.... I mean I couldn't wait for draft day when I was in my teens-- granted, the international scrubs have ruined a lot of the excitement but nonetheless, it will be a day to look forward to once more...

Thanks, Bron...

And since there are 30 teams in the league, Varejao is far from terrible and ranks in the top 50% of PFs and would be excellent coming off the bench for a contender. Mo is a starter here, but again he COULD come off the bench somewhere else, or go to a team who needs a mediocre PG with a decent jumper. We're playing below our abilities.

Andy's not talented...he's a hard worker. He makes up for his lack of talent by trying hard. but sometimes even his maximum effort can't overcome his lack of talent (like when he constantly blows easy layups, can't jump to block shots around the rim, and can't do anything with the ball in his hands)

Jamison is decent, but he's washed up and at the end of his career. he still ranks in the bottom half of PF's in the league.

Memphis has a pretty talented roster. They are pretty damn stacked to be honest. Mayo and Gay are true all-star caliber players...then you add Conley and Randolph...that's a top notch roster right there.

Memphis has better players, but they aren't competing and they have their players signed to terrible contracts. I should have clarified that. They absolutely have the superior talent, but they're not going anywhere with it and they can't make good moves. We're better off in that regard.

there are 14 PF's in the league that are better than Varejao...probably more if you consider his complete lack of offensive ability. that doesn't make him good if you ask me. Have you seen him try to score around the basket? he misses shots than any high school player could make with ease...he just has no coordination with the ball. no post up ability, no jumping ability, no shooting ability...can't even make a simple layup half the time. you call that talented?

Using PER to rank them

PG: Mo is 19th, Sessions 21st
SG: Gibson, 13, Parker not in top 50
SF: Moon 42nd, nobody else in top 50 (btw: iggy is 12th)
PF: Jamison 30
C: Hollins 19, Andy 21 - (and andy ranks higher at center than PF, the C position is pretty weak in the league)

JJ fell off the map - he was playing better than Bosh earlier this year. Better play from JJ and trade for an Iggy caliber talent and we're a solid playoff team. Brand is the #16 PF, include a trade Jamison for Brand and get even better, with top 15 to 20 players at every position and top 20is players off the bench. That's a solid team that's even better as players have hope of winning again.

If this were fantasy basketball, yeah, they'd have a "stacked" roster. But all things considered, they have a solid roster. Nothing more, nothing less.

....fuck you Jim Paxson.

woah woah woah...slow down there. having players who are ranked in the top 20 at every position is not a solid playoff team. you need at least 2 or 3 players that are ranked in the top 10 at their position - THAT is a solid playoff team.

the team that you put together with Iggy and Brand would still only be an 8th seed at best and a first round playoff exit...which would be a treadmill of mediocrity...the only real answer is to tank for a few years and get good draft picks.

Replace #6 at SF and I'd say we're on that treadmill of mediocrity. Still far from the "worst" team in the league, specially when you consider we have one of the lowest salaries. We're bad, but god damnit we aren't the worst!
