Once upon a time there was this Brady kid, low draft pick, lowly regarded backup.
He was thrown in as a starter in desperation and the rest is history.

In a time of desperation there is a kid named Derek Anderson. He's lowly regarded, but did okay in the pre-season. He played against third stringers, but also had third stringers surrounding him on the Browns offense.

By all accoounts he outperforms the incumbent in practice.

Another Brady?

Perhaps not. Could be another Todd Philcox or Spurgeon Wynn.

But no one really knows until he gets a chance.

If they think he's good enough to take over if Charlie Fry gets hurt, he ought be good enough to start with Fry looking banged up and bewildered.

Can he do worse than no offensive touchdowns in 10 quarters?

I don't know why Fry boosters would object. If Anderson fails, they can say "We told you so!!!"

Meanwhile Charlie can heal and won't be risking further injury.

Losing won't cost anything but gain a better draft position.

Having someone to compare Charlie to will tell the front office how dire the need is to acquire a QB in the off season.

Even if they believe Charlie is a solid starter they need to know if Number Two is adequate.

That Charlie has been tough and lucky enough to stay whole this far has defied the odds.

Logic dictates this move.

Will the Browns do it unless Fry is carted off?

Probably not.

Little else they have done or not has made sense this season

Why start now?
