Timofey Mozgov Mancrush thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am on the mozgov train. What would it require to grt him? We need to solve the love trade first but assuming we give wiggins and bennett + 1st, which seems like the most likely scenario, we still have a couple a first rounders and waiters as trade bait. Id like to keep waiter but I doubt a 1st is enough to grt him...

Why not? He's behind JaVale and JJ Hickson in the depth chart and they also just drafted Jusef Nurkic this past June. I don't think it'll cost a lot to get him from Denver at all.

I was doing some research to see what Denver thinks of Mozgov and potentially trading him away. Came across this article

I would venture to guess that the Nuggets value Mozgov fairly high. Brian Shaw referred to him as a "diamond in the rough" more than a few times towards the end of the season and Mozzy is on one of the best deals in the league for a productive seven-footer

So it's definitely possible to acquire Mozgov, but the odds are Denver will want something that will benefit their team right away. Mozgov isn't on a crippling contract so Denver simply trading him for cap relief is unlikely. I think a 1st round pick can get it done, but that's a poor trade for both teams imo. It hurts Denver right now and it will hurt the Cavs in the coming years

how is that a poor trade for us? we get one of the better rim protectors in the league who could be our starting Center for the upcoming years. not to mention that it would give us the best frontcourt rotation in basketball (Love/TT/Mozgov/Varejao).

i agree with your take on Denver though, the more i read it looks like they view Mozgov as their starter and not McGee so getting him might be a lot tougher than i originally thought.

It hurts us in terms of cap flexibility. If you think Mozgov is one of the better rim protectors in the league, and I'm not entirely sold on that, then he's gonna be paid like one. Sure, we won't have trouble resigning him because we'll have his early bird rights, but that sort of locks us in for the team that we have. Maybe that will be okay because we'll have a pretty complete team, but again, if Mozgov isn't the answer then we're very limited in how we can improve the team over the years.

But, hey, if Mozgov really is the answer then we'll have the strongest front court in the league for 4-5 years. That would be sweet

We are going to be screwed flexibility wise in 2016 anyway you slice it unless we get Love to extend instead of getting the full max (seems like a pipe dream). We have from now until the end of the next off-season to fix some holes. I am not married to him but he is the type of guy who should be on the radar. Yeah he will be due for a raise but if he does for us what I think he can do then you pay the man his money and if we are that worried about the luxury tax than you let TT walk.

Even with Love I really don't view us as a true contender next year. There are too many variables and things that need to be sorted out. One year from now I expect us to be the true favorites and not just an overhyped frankenstein team like the 2011 Heat.

Wonder if we can parlay those unused Utah expirings into Mozgov somehow.

2013-14 Stats: 9.4 ppg, 6.4 reb, 0.8 ast, 0.3 stl, 52.3% shooting, 1.2 blocks per game, 75% FT in 21 minutes per game

Played for Blatt in Russia:
The athletic 7-1 center had an outstanding campaign under David Blatt with the Russian national team in the European Championships in Poland this summer, averaging 11 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 23 minutes per game, helping his team far exceed expectations despite missing most of their big name players.

From SI:
Having agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire superstar forward Kevin Love, the Cleveland Cavaliers are in a great position. With a trio of Love, LeBron James, and Kyrie Irving, the Cavs will be one of the best teams in the league behind a high-powered offense. Unfortunately, offense is only half of the game.
With the current roster build, none of the Cavs three bigs (Love, Varejao, Thompson) are good rim defenders. This issue has forced the Cavaliers to look around the league for a starting center that can better the defense, offering a first-round pick as bait. And according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Denver Nuggets center Timofey Mozgov is one of the centers they’ve looked to acquire via trade.

Last season, Mozgov was one of the best rim protectors in the NBA. Per NBA Stat’s Player Tracking System, Mozgov forced opponents to shoot 46.9% at the rim. In comparison, the league best at rim protection per SportsVU was Indiana’s Roy Hibbert at 41.4%.

He’s exactly what the Cavaliers need at the center position behind James, Irving, and Love. Along with rim protection, he’s a solid rebounder and can work in the pick-and-roll with James and Irving. Most importantly, Mozgov’s presence would allow the Cavaliers to play Anderson Varejao less minutes per game, preserving his healthy for playoff basketball.

Woj didn’t make it clear how close or far away the Cavaliers were in their pursuit for Mozgov, but if they find a way to acquire the center, they’ll become the clear frontrunners to win the Eastern Conference.

The Cavs targeted Timofey Mozgov, offering a first-round pick to the Nuggets to entice them to part with the 7’1″ center, as Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports said in an appearance Thursday on WFAN Radio in New York, according to Tommy Beer of Basketball Insiders (Twitter link).

Would Murphy/Lucas/Thomas be enough to get this done? Or would Harris have to be thrown in as well?

Not to be an arse, but doesn't the quote speak for itself? I assume you mean for cap purposes- no, those 3 would do it. But Thomas can't be dealt for what, 45 more days? Wonder if Denver would revisit this then. Shocked they wouldn't do this, a 1st rounder for Timofey I would think they would jump on that.

mozgov is very serviceable center making 4.5MM a year. They aren't just going to give him away. The memphis pick would have to be included. I'd definitely do that along with the non-guaranteed contracts. Even then, it might not be enough.

I still would like Mozgov...but more than a first round pick is crazy. He's good, but not crazy good.

That's what I was thinking.

Wait about a month and a half when Thomas can be aggregated, Denver drops Mozgov's full salary for free, and gets a pick out of it. And it still gets Mozzy here before camp.

Although, it might make more sense to see how this roster works without a center, and then target Mozgov closer to the deadline when maybe a 2nd rounder gets it done instead of a 1st. :dunno:

Trading away our 1st round pick is what f--- us before all we need is a cheap backup center that can give us up 10 plus mins a game and split the rest with AV ( better that any center available ) ( TT we should not be ask him to be star just someone that can and bang ) and a cheap backup. Send Dwight Powell down to the D league and have play center he is big enough. if he can't cut it, the next draft pick the best center available to us.

They need another body, especially for the first three months of the season. Being forced to overuse Varejao early risks injury, and I don't think there is a more vital cogfor the playoffs than a rested Varejao. All those young guys with fresh llegs don't need the Popovich treatment.

If a trade doesn't materialize now, and I do think one will, just sign an experienced healthy body and plan to make a trade at the deadline. We got Hawes for a freaking second rounder last deadline... we can wait for better quality.
