Tracking the 2013 Draft Picks

I will laugh my azz off if the Lakers end up with say the 12th pick.

We know they are going to make the playoffs, but the early losses need to keep racking up. If they, hypothetically, finish with the 4 seed in the West then that pick is easily 5-6 picks higher than the Miami one. Same as last year, we have 4 draft picks, and we all know we aren't going to come to camp with 4 rookies. The losses early on will be key for trading up in the draft to grab the player that keeps falling. Oh, and the 0-2 start couldn't happen to a better fan base.

I'm willing to bet that one doesn't happen lol. It would be nice for them to be incredibly injury prone this season though, and end up never being able to gain chemistry due to never having the starting line up playing more than a dozen healthy games together. They do have a big man who relies completely on athletecism coming off of a back injury, and 4 players in their mid-late 30's starting so it's not completely unreasonable to hope they finish in the 20-25 range.

I recall we got confirmation that it was unprotected, but apparently the sites that report this stuff didn't get the memo - or don't believe it.

Yes, we (Ben) got confirmation (through a Lakers source, if I remember right) that it was unprotected, but RealGM has checked into it and believes it is lottery-protected. At least one RCF poster emailed RealGM, and they are adamant that the Lakers pick/swap is lottery-protected.

We need a Mike Brown as the Lakers' tank-driver photoshop for this thread.

Mike Brown is the commander, Sessions was the operative, and Jamison's clearly the gunner.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say you are tracking the 2012 draft picks...

I have been thinking of creating a thread where the first post is updated with the stats of players we were tracking leading up to the draft (Beal, MKG, etc). Might create that soon - give the players the chance to build some numbers.

Here is the email in question:

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the internet concerning the rights the Cleveland Cavaliers have with the 2013 LA Lakers pick.

Obviously it is swappable... However, some other sites and some other people I have talked to with connections to the Cavaliers have said that this pick is unprotected. However, you have the LA pick as lottery protected.

Is this pick lottery protected or unprotected? I am a die hard Cavs fan and any information would be greatly appreciated.

His reply
Christopher,

We’re certain about the accuracy of our data in regards to future picks, hence the pick is lottery protected.

Lakers on the way to 0-3. Nash DNP and Dwight foul trouble. This team can't be this bad right?

During the 10-11 season when James and Bosh arrived in Miami they started the season 9-8 and everyone started freaking out. Then they figured each other out and won 21 out of the next 22 games. I'm thinking this Lakers thing is kind of like that.

0-3...keep them coming fellas.

I don't know. This Lakers team is much older, has basically no bench, and has Mike Brown as their coach. 3rd game in 4 nights and Kobe plays 40+ minutes on a bum foot. Howard coming off of back surgery, Nash is damn near 40. If this team starts picking up more injuries they could struggle to develop chemistry on the floor. I'm not saying they'll miss the playoffs or anything, but 6-8 seed in the West isn't crazy talk right now.

I don't think they win anything close to 21 out of 22 all year long. I just don't think they are 0-3 bad, or even close to that. The west is tough though and if it takes long enough to mesh, then yeah 5-8 seed sounds about right.

Worth noting that Nash is out at least a week with a leg fracture. Now that he no longer has the Phoenix warlocks dipping him in Lazarus pits to restore his youth, will we finally see the him break down?

This Lakers team isn't just old they have logged a TON of minutes. Kobe's played over 50,000 including playoffs, and he really hasn't taken any time off because of his Olympic commitments, and deep playoff runs.

Nash is 38 father time has to hit him soon, and he's been battling back problems his entire career and is now away from the best medical staff in the game.
