Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You can look at TT adding the 3 point shot, if he even does, in two ways. Chris Bosh has fallen in love with jumpshooting and now that he has 3 point range, he just camps and doesn't work inside. Doesn't grab a high number of rebounds for a guy of his caliber and height. But it does draw defenders out to the 3 point line, giving even more room to operate on drive and kicks.
If TT were to somehow add that into his repertoire it wouldn't be for a few years but it would pay great dividends for the Cavs. He wouldn't (hopefully) fall in love with it and it would vault him into IMO elite status at the PF position. He'd be a more aggressive/better rebounding Chris Bosh if he somehow finds the touch.

Bosh has always been a jump shooter. his rookie season 33% of his shots were at the rim. last season still 33% of his shots were at the rim.

Yeah, Bosh was never a banger, paint guy. He always hated playing Center in Toronto.

He has always been a big man who enjoyed jump shooting, but he's taken it to a new level.

His last year in Toronto he took 407 shots at the rim compared to 281 shots outside of 16 feet. Last season in Miami he took 335 shots at the rim and 530 outside of 16 feet.

This threads going off the rails.... Tristan is nowhere close to a game-ready 3 point shot...

My prediction is that by the end of his career, Tristan will be the most complete player at the pf position.

It's a good thing Tim Duncan should be retiring soon.

We might have to do something about that Anthony Davis guy though.

I was thinking about this the other day. I remember it being reported (and never really dispelled) that the Cavs offered All 4 of their picks in the 2012 draft AND Tristan for the top pick in order to draft Davis. At that time, even that stuff was laughable for a guy as 'can't miss' as Davis. Looking back on it now, there's still a chance that New Orleans may ultimately regret that decision. If Tristan pans out as an all-star and Dion, Barnes, or Drummond do the same, it would have been a good trade for both sides. Oops, I also forgot Lillard.

Lillard, the Thompson we currently have, the 24th pick, the 31st pick, and the 33rd pick would have been a nice haul for New Orleans.

At the time New Orleans would have had to be out of their mind to accept the deal. Davis is more superstar potential, Thompson is definitely at least all star potential with his growth but at the time he wasn't particularly good. And this is coming from someone who loved our goofy Canadian even when he sucked.

Maybe I didn't make it clear enough but I agreed at the time that the deal would never be accepted because New Orleans (or anyone for that matter) would never accept it. I just think now that there's a chance one could look back and say that maybe it would have been a better deal for them at that time. They've now given up two lottery picks to obtain a higher end point guard.

This board is full of "What if Chris Grant had assembled Kyrie, Barnes, JV, and Oladipo?" statements. Watching the Pelicans and all the things that could possibly go wrong for them (Holiday leveling out, Gordon never getting healthy, Evans not living up to his contract, losing next year's lottery pick), it may be a viable question to wonder what if they had ended up with Thompson, Lillard, whatever they would have done with those later picks, kept Noel (or drafted someone else), and kept their pick in the 2014 draft.

OT but the Pelicans are doing their rebuild wrong, imo. They are rushing the process acquiring those players.

There is nothing short of Kyrie we could offer that would make New Orleans think about trading Davis.

Going completely off the rails here, and I'm sure it won't be popular, but I'd still trade TT, Dion, Bennett, a future first, really anybody who's not Kyrie, Michael Symon, the Michael Stanley Band, and a lifetime supply of Wally Waffle waffles for Davis... and the Pelicans would still laugh at the offer.

I would expect Kyrie and Davis together to end up challengers for the title of best duo ever. Then sign that LeBron character in the off-season, keep a now healthy Bynum, play me at SG just for S's and G's, and... oops... I spurted.

They are all young players. That's the point of the rebuild. To make your team young. Nothing wrong with what they've done, other than arguable giving up a future lottery pick.

To me it seems like that was exactly what he was criticizing. They gave up a potential lottery pick, or at least a pick in the teens, in a loaded draft to acquire a non star.
