Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm stating a fact here, not assuming anything. Playoffs bolstered his value due to Love's injury.

Of course, but you also said his role and value would reduce next year. Which is wrong. Dead wrong.

I hope TT signs the QO and JR gets a little comittment from Cavs 1+1 w team option. I'm not convinced the Cavs ever offered TT 5 yrs @ 80mil. Because if they did and he didn't take it, he's a fool. Conversely if he thinks he's worth those kind of #s, then play on the QO this year and become an UFA next summer when the cap goes up.

It's not entirely clear cut wrong. It's possible that with a fully healthy love, mozgov, and av all together that Thompson sees his minutes cut, or role reduced, or at least sees a cut in productivity. And that possibility is why his potential holdout now seems even dumber.

AV won't reduce the role of TT, if everyone's healthy then there's no need for AV to play more than 8-10 minutes a game, if that. But yes, TT's holdout is probably going to be fruitless. Cavs will be waiting with a modest contract when he decides to give up, perhaps the originally reported $80 million/5 years but certainly not the max.

In the Delly thread someone suggested that there is an agreement about not offering rfa money when they know the team will match. I dunno if it is true, but it is in effect especially with TT. I think the Cavs would actually feel more comfy offering a Max if some other team would. Now they are just bidding against themselves.
Cavs have been down this path (bidding against themselves) and it usually ends up negative.
The NBA is becoming more tuned in into not offering contracts to RFA unless they know they can get that player..
NFL is a different animal as I thought about this..sometimes teams will try to weaken the hometown team by making them match on a RFA,thus it harder for that team to resign another RFA on that same team..and he becomes free.

Does anybody know why over at realgm there is so much hate for TT? The most recent thread is bashing TT and the rumour of 80/5.. people saying they would Take JJ Hickson or Brandan Wright over TT^^

I really ask myself.. when did TT become so polarizing? Hes a blue collar Hard Working Guy.. And Big Men of simillar worth around his age have gotten huge contracts recently as well(Kanter,Green,Monroe)

Are people scared of us having TT as luxury of the Bench? Have people really forgotten how TT basically outplayed any Big he faced in the Playoffs? How any Team we faced had to gameplan against TTs offensive rebounding madness?

I know 80/5 for a 9/8 guy seem horrendous at first glance but you really have to be devoid of any basketball knowledge to not know that a) TT is extremly important to us and b)there is no valid reachable option to replace him.

LOL

Is this a true story? I need to know the context and how he presented it.

Well i was at a music festival in Toronto. I was wearing this jersey I had made with Alonzo Gee's 33 on it. Turns out Bonner's brother Luke had played with Alonzo in Poland. He guessed it was Alonzo's number somehow.

It was right after thyblost to the heat so I guess 2012 in early July. Matt told a story about being in the 3 point contest and he dropped his percentage. That was appropriate. He actually said he drank a PBR tall boy in the stall right before he went out to shoot to calm his nerves.

Then at least 2 more times he dropped his percentage in casual conversation. My friends and I just noticed it because it was sort of apropos of nothing. Must have been his best year since he went to the 3 pt contest.

He's a good guy. We just get this image of Spurs guys that they are super humble. They might be to each other, but supreme confidence verging on delusion even for end of the bench guys. Must be a requirement to be an NBA player

Because TT is not worth 80 over 5. Period. That's why casual fans don't like him. He also tried to kiss Allie like Joe Namath tried to kiss Suzy. He also wears hundred dollar sweatpants to practice. He also can't shoot outside of 8 feet and is a poor free throw shooter.

He's also Canadian.

What pushes his value up is the fact that he is the absolute perfect fit for this team.

IMO, TT can't afford to take the QO. He will sign for 80 over 5 with a team option and be happy.

I asked my company if they would pay me .08 M and they said sure over 5 yrs. Score! :abnormal:

Cavs balked at paying Tristan 13m this past off-season. Now they need to pay him at least 15m and he might balk then, too. If they wait another offseason, and he gets a whole postseason to just run around, board and defend while Love sucks defenders out of the paint then some team will go stupid for him during the Great Capsplosion of 2016. Cavs got to get a long term deal done here.
