Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So here is how it is going to play out - Cavs give Thompson the max deal and just as he is about to sign it Kanye West comes out of nowhere - tears the contract up and leaves leaving Tristan in tears!!!

Kanye will just make Tristan Thompson Canadian Ambassador to the United States once he becomes President of the United States in 2020.

Found this from an article on a Cavs Facebook fan page.

I'm convinced this whole thing is trash now and that Paul is just going through the motions

“A league source tells me that his agent, Rich Paul, has already made it clear to the Cleveland Cavaliers that Thompson will not sign a long-term deal unless it is a max deal. And otherwise, he is prepared to sign a one-year qualifying offer with the additional knowledge, according to the source, that Paul believes that he can get a max deal with the Raptors next summer.”

So when we're you allowed to begin contract negotiations a year before the contract is up?

Busted

This whole thing is trash. I bet TT is just sitting back waiting for Paul to do his job
Err... Tristan’s contract IS up right now. He’s a free agent right now, albeit restricted. Any team is allowed to negotiate with him or offer him a contract. We’re just allowed to match it.

Plus, do you really think people will not have conversations bc they're not allowed? unlikely isn't the right word, and it's also currently allowed.

Of course rp is talking to other teams. the raps don't make any sense because ofmarginal difference in pay due to tax implications.

Makes you realize if the raps ate the only team potentially giving tt what he wants, and the deal makes no financial sense whatsoever, rich Paul has absolutely nothing

Still find the whole Raptors talk pointless. Of course Toronto would seem like an ideal place for him being that it's home, but how Paul or anyone wants to pretend the Raptors would sign TT for the max or anything close to that is bonkers. I can't see them signing Jonas for 4/64, and give Thompson even more money than that. Let alone pairing them as starting PF/C would be a serious clog, especially when they lack good perimeter shooting. It's nothing more than noise and Griffen is wise to call their bluff.

Twitter going wild atm with people who have now fully accepted that TT is rightfully a max contract player after weeks of rationalizing.

If Tristan signed for 13 mil per season on July 1st, would all those people really have claimed he should have gotten a max contract?

While i still think this is all Rich Pauls game to make the Cavs raise their offer...

IF TT really wont accept anything less than the max... i have to say than screw him..a Lebron can demad the max. a Kyrie and Love can as well. But not a First Big of the Bench/fringe Starter TT. Hell Love even gave us a heavy discount considering for how much more he could have resigned in 2 years.

If TT really only cares for money/role he can go.. i know we cant replace him exactly.. but we can get a decent backup PF rebounding/hustle guy for the TPE for sure... wont be quite as good as TT and propably be older.. but will be not nearly as expensive.

Even with the new cap we cant have a 20m/year guy on our Bench. This would be crazy...

If TT really thinks he can get the max next summer.. let him go for it.. if some Team pays him the max.. fine.. i think he is not worth that kind of money for us.
We have a TPE of 13m if we are lucky we can get 2 decent bench players for that..

TT signed at a reasonable contract will be fine but he is no star.. we cant afford to pay him like hes Dwight Howard or 80% Anthony Davis.

In the last months we have talked ourselfes into "He is not easily replaced so we need to keep him even at 5/80"

But lets be real here.. i love is play but a role player stays a role player. Having a good Playoff run or beeing the No4 Pick doesnt change that.

If he wants All Star Money fine. but then he either has to play like one or he can gladly leave..

I would love it if Ujiri or somebody affiliated with the Raptors organization released a statement along the lines of "we'd love to have Tristan Thompson, just not at anywhere near the price he's asking"...Paul's matchbook house erupts in flames. :chuckle:
I don't see that happening, RP will have more players in the coming years, what could they gain by injecting themselves into this situation, there is no reward to the risk of him being anti Raptors in the future?

He also represents another player in their team (Cory Joseph)

Paul has already injected them into the situation though. Actually, I think more scrutiny should be ascribed to the way Paul is handling this, both ethically and legally. Unless the Raptors have made any overtures to Paul and/or Thompson, can they just be thrown out there are as a potential landing spot for negotiations nearly a year away, with Paul insinuating that they'll "pay up"? If I'm the Raptors and no such discussions have been held, I'm saying "wait a minute...who the? what the? When did we ever give any indication we would be comfortable fronting that kind of bill, and why would we be if notorious spender Gilbert clearly isn't?"

It's all very dubious, and the fulcrum is simply that TT is Canadian. The whole thing reeks.
