Ohio State senior safety-linebacker Tyler Moeller will undergo season-ending surgery this week to repair a torn pectoral muscle.Moeller suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday's road win against Illinois. MRI exam results on Monday revealed the tear. On Tuesday, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel confirmed Moeller will be out for the rest of the season.
Moeller, who played the "star" position in Ohio State's often-used nickel package, leads the team in both tackles for loss with 4.5 and forced fumbles with 2. He has 20 tackles, a sack and an interception.
Moeller already had planned to petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility after missing the entire 2009 season with a head injury he suffered as the victim of an assault in a Florida bar and restaurant in July 2009. If his petition is successful, Moeller will return to the Buckeyes for spring football in 2011.
