Hey All
I said up front it is a coaching rumor and that was it a rumor, I have no facts to back it up it is just something I heard up at ND last week. Well here it is, the RUMOR- After the season and possible after the recruiting season we will see either Minter or Lewis or both retire from coaching instead of being fired and then After the NFL season depending what happens if possibly Weis would pursue Romeo Crennel to fill the defensive coach void. But hey another thing also about recruiting and I do know this for fact, there is a lot more ND prospects out there then we realize, we only hear about the ones that leak out or want to be leaked out other then that the ND coaches recruiting list is a lot larger then we dare to know.

What do you guys think about that?

As a Browns Fan: Yes he is gone
OSU Fan: recruiting just got harder:rolleyes:

You know it's bad when coaches are getting plucked off your team to coach college teams...it should be vice versa :chuckles:

I really wouldn't care if he left...he hasn't really done much to make me want him to stay. He's made them competitive...but they still aren't winning games. I want wins, damnit!

You know it's bad when HEAD coaches are being plucked to take ASSISTANT jobs on college teams.

Which is why I've got to believe this rumor is false, unless RAC is getting axed. Otherwise, why in the world would he go to (what is viewed in the coaching profession as) a lesser league for a MUCH lower position?

He goes.. Tressel comes? Just a thought.

As intriguing as that sounds I can't imagine Tressel taking a shot with the Browns after literally building a dynasty and becoming a coaching god at OSU. And the Browns have already tinkered enough with head coaches with no previous head coaching experience in the NFL (Belichick, Palmer, Davis, Crennel).

Trust me, I love Tressel and I can't say I'd be opposed - but I still think that if Romeo gets canned their #1 guy from the start will be Cowher.

Why in the world would Cowher leave Pit for Cle?

He is already leaving Pittsburgh. He is not under contract after this season. I'm not saying he would come here. I'm just saying that if he's available and Crennel gets canned, the Browns would be insane not to make him their #1 choice and do what it takes to try to get him here.

As much as I hate Pittsburgh as much as the next person here, I'd say that Cowher would be a great coach here. He has roots in Cleveland, and he's one of the best coaches in the NFL. Pittsburgh would be dumb to let him go.

I wish I would have saved the mp3 from Tony Grossi's podcast last Tuesday with cleveland.com (it was overwritten today with his new podcast). He went into a lot of detail about Cowher and made some good points. He basically said don't be surprised if the Browns go after him this offseason if Romeo gets canned.

found this interesting...

Can the Wolfpack go from "The Chest" to "The Chin?" After Amato was fired Sunday, don't be surprised if NC State athletics director Lee Fowler makes a serious run at Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, a former Wolfpack linebacker. The Wolfpack talked to Cowher when Amato was hired in 2000, but the longtime NFL coach indicated the timing wasn't right. Now that the defending Super Bowl champions are essentially out of the playoffs with a 4-7 record, the timing might be right for Cowher to return to his alma mater. His wife, a former NC State women's basketball player, already lives in the Raleigh, N.C., area in a home they purchased within the last year.

I don't care if NSCU is his alma mater, that's not a very attractive job. He will have trouble getting the talent he'll need to compete in the ACC. North Carolina is not a talent rich state when it comes to high school football, and he has to compete directly with UNC and Wake Forest, not to mention several other more attractive out of state programs like Clemson and VT.
