just going thru the list, it seems there just arent the stars of yesteryear in there...some players, granted i dont see them often, just dont seem to be the best or is this really the best representation the USA has???

thoughts?

Re: USA mens bball squad

oh, the players i mean are bowens (defense only), ridnour plus the 2 rookies...are they really the best...

Re: USA mens bball squad

Those are the best, remember the best PG in the league is Steve Nash (CANADA). Billups Arenas and Hinrich are all top 10 PG's in the league.

I don't like Redick on the team at all, he is just not even worthy of being backups to Wade and those guys. Oden is going to be a force IMO. I like the lineup...Melo could go though, he won't see time ahead of Bron and Marion. Won't get it over Wade and sure as hell won't get any over Amare Brand or Bosh.

Re: USA mens bball squad

I hope JJ Redick doesn't get to play more because of Coach K. He doesn't deserve to at least yet.

Re: USA mens bball squad

Yeah theres a lot of young stars on the team, which I like. I think they'll be hungry to return the US back to the top in international competition. James, Wade, and Kobe are gonna play. Now the roster is at over 20, I couldnt find what the final roster number will be, maybe 12? :dunno: I think Coach K will do better than Larry Brown this time around.

The USA really needs to play better and get back to being the best in the world. Of course we know about the Olympic Bronze in 04, and the US was 6th at the 2002 World Championships. The last time they won gold at the World Championships was 1994.

This year the W.C.'s will have 24 teams, up from 16 teams in 2002. Heres the preliminary rankings Ive found:

#1 USA
#2 Serbia & Montenegro
#3 Argentina
#4 Lithuania
#5 Spain
#6 Italy
#9 Austrailia

If the US wins this they will automatically qualify for the 08 Olympics, which is what we are shooting for. With 24 teams, the competition should be fun. I think Bron will be a major factor for this team, unlike the last Olympics where Larry Brown hardly used Bron. Should be Fun, hope most the games will be televised!!!

Yeah we gotta show the world this time around. I mean we aren't good at Hockey anymore and we suck at Soccer. Basketball was always the one sport we dominated in at a world class level. Let's prove that we still are Number #1!

Re: USA mens bball squad

Less ego's. I like it. It's a good mix of All-Star/Semi-All-Star players that would mesh better then to have 12 ballhogs like the last US team.

Just pray that LBJ doesn't get injured

Exactly. I think with all the talent on this roster, the goal is to get back on top. I think the days of the US men blowing away the competitton are over, like with the Dream Team (i still have the original Dream Team T-shirt  ), but i think the US has the potential to at least go undefeated.

At least the US women are still on top dominating the world, gold winners in the last 2 Olympics and the last W.C.'s.....They will play in the W.C.'s after the men in Sept in Brazil....if anyone cares :chuckles:

I'll have to take matters into my own hands now.

Re: USA mens bball squad

When you have a situation where LeBron, Wade, and Chris Paul are playing on the same team, I'm pretty sure you can put that team up against any other team in the world and beat them...

Re: USA mens bball squad

My starting lineup would be....

Chris Paul
Dwyane Wade
LeBron James
Elton Brand
Dwight Howard

You need some outside shooting there.. A lot of the international teams play zone defense...

I suggest you put Billups in there for Paul and Miller in there for Howard...
