USC is completely ethical

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It just goes to show how things are done, that there is nothing wrong with it, and NCAA athletics are late into actually using the practice.

There is absolutely nothing wrong or illegal about recruiting a middle school athlete.

In your opinion, which many people disagree with. The media tore this story apart the day it came out. Wilbon was literally screaming at the camera over it. We are far from the only people who think this is ludicrous. There is definitely something wrong with it.

This is wrong in the same way pageant mom's are wrong in what they do.

It's exploitation of your child or living vicariously through your child, whatever you want to call it.

It's certainly not a healthy building block as they enter into society.

I'm sure some of you heard about the Kent State Student that was murdered on campus by getting his head basically stomped- well he was a good friend of mine. While he was on life support, Jim Tressel called him to see how he was doing- not knowing the full situation obviously, just that it was serious.

Short of Tressel murdering someone I love, I can't smack talk him for anything.

I disagree on the basis it depends on what level the parents are playing it. In this case, this kid just happened to be with a good coach that has networking contacts with Kiffin. It wasn't like he is pimping his son as the holy grail. There are plenty of parents that do that, and I would agree with you if that were the case, but it is not.

And to nicky, We can agree to disagree on whether or not it is ethical for him to recruit a middle school kid, but all that other non-sense in your original post was flat out crap and that's a fact. There are plenty of people that feel it is fine, some people may not think it is the proper place to recruit middle school kids. But to single out a coach and a conference as what is and isnt ethical just doesnt have any legs to stand on.

Personally I think THAT is the problem.

I just don't see how it's an issue. If the kid is good at athletics, he has potential, isn't being whored out by parents or aau coaches with an agenda, then it is a great honor to get an athletic scholarship.

Kids get scholarships to high schools for dance and art, is that an issue too? Or is it
ok because it's not sports??

I don't think anyone is saying it's OK in any scenario.

Dance, football, pageantry...whatever the case may be.

Kids get the wrong idea about what's REALLY important in life, and it begins with the parents.

Again, you don't know that to be the case.

This kid wasn't whored out by his parents. A QB coach told Kiffin he thought he had a kid that could be better thn other students he has had. Kiffin called out of the blue and made an offer.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that scenario. There is absolutely nothing wrong with kids going to performance arts schools, or high education schools, or anything that would benefit them in the long run.

Telling a kid if he works hard at a sport will get you a free college scholarship is the wrong message in life??? You maybe a bit delusional...
