We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan (Nov 26, 12:00 EST)

Here is a video that captures some of the essence of how big Ohio State-Michigan is. You can really see how much tradition -- hell, how much of a lifestyle, really -- there is when it comes to being a passionate Ohio State or Michigan fan.

Same could be said of any big school, guy. The reason many don't like THE Ohio State University is because we're always good, which is why so many people were so happy to see us get in trouble this year. It's got nothing to do with our fan base and everything to do with our success over the years.

And even if it isn't your school, it's still widely considered one of the biggest rivalries in all of sports. Not just college football. Not just college athletics. All of sports. A rivalry that goes back over a hundred years, and one that's almost always been competitive. A rivalry that predates the beginning of the World Series by 6 years, and the NFL by almost 25. It's one of those few games that makes the taste of a bad season go away if you win. So if you're a college football fan with even an ounce of knowledge about the history of the game, then you know damn well why it's different from every other rivalry game out there.

People can go ahead and hate all they want, people can go ahead and say they don't care all they want, people can try and play devil's advocate or take the holier than thou path all they want, people can say "it's just a game, why should I care" all they want. People can make thinly-veiled jabs at our beloved football team and our fiercely loyal and devoted fan base all they want. You know what? FUCK THEM!!! If anyone thinks it's JUST A GAME then I've got news for you -- it's a tradition, one that's older and more hallowed than several generations of your family. Continue to hate or give your "outsiders perspective" -- all the hate does is dump gasoline on the fire that is our passion for everything Ohio State, and I'm damn proud to be a Buckeye.

End of rant, go Buckeyes.

Well, guy, you just don't get it. People don't dislike Ohio State because they are always good. Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, etc are always good too...they are far from alone there. Maybe people dislike Ohio State because you insist on putting "THE" in front of the university name, like it matters? Maybe people dislike OSU because of fans that are asinine enough to say OSU-Michigan is a more hallowed tradition than someone's family? Or maybe people dislike OSU because of ridiculous reactions to innocent gestures of goodwill?

Who knows? Like I said, I have zero ties to Ohio State, so I'm not a fan nor do I dislike them. I was just offering my outside opinion, which I can see now was a mistake. I'm going to exit before you lead me to taking it further than that.

Enjoy the game.

Umm, it is called The Ohio State University, not just OSU... it's in the name, it does matter. It's on the fucking sign on High Street that says "Welcome to The Ohio State University".

Damn right it's more hallowed than one's generations, yours or mine. You know why? Because over the past 100+ years, it has encompassed MILLIONS of people. It has brought MILLIONS of people together, from all walks of life. People like you and me, that follow sports and find both passion and pleasure in them. The fact that a mere college rivalry can do that is incredible. There are fans from both sides all over the world, it has been that way for some time now, and it will always be that way.

As for the innocent gesture of goodwill, he may have had good intentions, but anybody with half a brain would know better than to expect a positive reaction after posting on a message board of Ohio State fans (or any fans, for that matter) right after a loss.

And I'm sorry, but I consider an "outside opinion" to be a little bit more than a neutral one when you start accusing fans of crying or making excuses.

But hey, agree to disagree. It is an anonymous message board and a free country, so you're entitled to your outside opinion, just like I am entitled to mine.

Damn, this video never gets old.

Have you even read my posts? After I predicted the OSU fan reaction, I said that if I was an OSU fan, I would do the exact same thing. Again, I apologize if that was taken the wrong way, but I was just commenting on how I thought OSU fans would cope with what I expect to be a loss.

A few other things...

- You and I both know that insisting on "The" being included in the name is more than just using the exact name...it's a superiority thing. Every other schools with "The" on the official name doesn't include it, and doesn't get pissed if you fail to include it.

- It was a goodwill gesture, and I'd expect "the best fans in the land" to be able to be good losers. To the credit of OSU fans, the negative responses were in the minority.

- I am a sports fanatic. When one of my teams loses, it puts a damper on the rest of my day. Some of the most memorable moments of my life are sports-related. I met my wife at a Cleveland Indians game. With all of that said, no sports rivalry is more important or more hallowed than my family history. While this rivalry has certainly brought people together, our ancestors have collectively shaped the foundation and history of this country. Without them, sports (and this rivalry) wouldn't even exist. Nothing is more important than family. Nothing. I sincerely hope that deep down, you feel the same way.

How many chainsaws and explosives would it take to detach Michigan from the United States?

We can air-strike foreign bodies.

Agree on certain things, disagree on others, and I think you misinterpret when I say more hallowed than family. Probably my fault for not using the correct wording. When I say that, I mean it's bigger than just you or me, or mine or yours -- like I said, it's MILLIONS of people over a hundred years. Some of the only other things that have brought that many people together have been historical events. Of course family is above all -- it's why I put on the uniform I do, it's why we get up in the morning, it's why we make sacrifices, because in the end that's all you got, and at the end of the day they're sticking their necks out there for you and you for them.

But this conversation has gotten way too deep now. Allow me to return to my completely shameless homerism for my school. :chuckles:

I'm hoping for a giant sinkhole to just swallow the whole state, actually.

Jesus christ who gives a fuck if someone hates OSU fans. It's not like their self-righteousness is going to have an outcome on the game. Fuck em.

Unreal. LOVE IT!!!

Well, at least now I can fully hate Denard Robinson. His "We got eat" bullshit is really annoying.
