AUBURN HILLS -- Chris Webber confirmed Monday what Joe Dumars pretty much knew Jan. 4 -- the former Detroit Country Day and University of Michigan star wanted to come home and play for the Pistons.

It was that night, as the Pistons were in the process of beating the Hornets, Dumars got a call from Aaron Goodwin, Webber's agent.

"Joe, would you have any interest in Chris Webber?" Goodwin said.

"Yeah," Dumars said, "except he plays for the Sixers."

That's when Goodwin informed Dumars that Webber had reached a buyout agreement with the 76ers, and that Webber wanted to go to a contender, and he hoped the Pistons would be interested.

At 2 today, Webber, after clearing waivers, will sign a prorated one-year, $1.17 million contract ($650,000) with the Pistons.

"After careful thought and discussions with my family, I have decided I will sign with the Detroit Pistons," he said in a statement. "Joining the Pistons will allow me the opportunity to play the game I love in my hometown of Detroit, surrounded by my family. I look forward to joining a roster of talented athletes and working towards a fourth NBA title for the Pistons and the great city of Detroit."

Detroit is a magnet for quality bigs. This came with no surprise at all.

All he needs to remember...dont call time outs if you dont have them. HAHA.

Weber is trash now. THey are getting him for 650,000 a year and that is what he is worth.

Agreed. He will hurt them a lot defensively down low. Our bigs should have a field day in the paint when we play the Pistons now.

He may help them offensively for a period of time, but he will harm them more defensively in my opinion.

Solid move for Detroit... Webber will provide the post passing they need when RIP and Tayshaun are coming off of those screens...

Nazr Mohammed is most likely going to Minnesota for a happy meal and a pat on the ass..

sooo that hole timeout joke isnt funny ok you big jerk....I still have nightmares about it...I remember exactly where I was and my Dad saying "whatever you do DONT call a Time out" then the mother effer got away with a travel and still managed to blow the game.....crushing

this kinda sucks based purely on Webber's history against the Cavs....he has always put up big numbers against us...but if Detriot really is going to trade Nazr for Marko Jaric well then that takes away the big man depth that they just got so I wouldnt be tooo upset

Great move for Detroit. To me, they are a better team then the Cavaliers, especially if Webber fits in ok.

If they trade Nazr, they are def. looking to push a lot more.I don't see them stopping Z or gooden if trading Mohammed.

I dont agree. If C-Webb is healthy he is still a great ball player.. He averaged 20/10 last year.. He averaged better than Z and Gooden last year and played in about the same amount of games..

I wouldnt mind having him..
