What about the blocked FGs, 30-40 yard returns, 40 yard punts, falling to pin an easy punt inside the 10, instead at the 22, the 7 yard onside kick is obviously piling on. Weird to go to bat for a scrub.

There are some defensive fronts you just shouldn't sneak against unless it's literally inches. There should be an audible out of the sneak to an effective counter for that front. We don't seem to do that, ever.
