Hot head?Knowing how much of a hot head Jimmy Haslam is, wouldn't surprise me if Farmer didn't have a job Monday morning....
I hate Browns fans.
I hate Browns fans.
The guy had no business being an NFL GM in the first place.
He was one of the more respected assistant GMs in the league before he got the job, so you're talking out of your ass.
Not really but whatever. Farmer was assistant GM in Cleveland for one year and Director of Player Personnel in KC for six years. He had never run a draft or scouted for a draft before he got to Cleveland. I'm not sure how one can be one of the more respected assistant GM's based on that resume.
He's in over his head and his two drafts show that. It hurts that his FA signings, which is supposed to be his main strength, have been busts for the most part too..... The Browns just don't have enough talent on the roster and that's Farmer's responsibility.
Ray Farmer was well respected 3 years ago? Great. Because he surely isn’t respected by anyone now.
I think the problem stems from the larger than usual amount of draft picks we have had in the last two years paired with how we are regressing. No rational person thought this was a playoff team, but to look as bad as we have at things we made our #1 priority to fix shows incompetence. Twenty draft picks and 2 full offseasons is enough to not be utter garbage when you start your tenure with 5 pro bowlers from prior regimes. He interviewed for the Dolphins job the same summer he later got the full title here, and by most accounts the job was his if he wanted it. If that doesn't mean that he's respected then I'm not sure what else to say. And yes, he had not been a draft scout or run a draft (no assistant does that so I'm not sure how you can hold that against him), but his job in KC was being in charge of scouting professional talent not on their team.
Saying he was respected before he got the job and having bumps in the road when he got it are not mutually exclusive things. I fully admit that the team he has built this year does not look great, but I'm not really sure what people were expecting from this year anyways. It seems like the everyone on the board has suddenly come to the conclusion that we stink just because we got clobbered this week, when it was pretty apparent in the pre-season that this team wasn't ready to take the next step.
Oh come on. I know it's a game day thread and there are some emotional posts that are some truly hot takes, but you can't seriously think Farmer got dealt a bad hand here. He's going to have to wait a few years before he gets a better job and becomes respected again.

He started with 5 pro bowlers. That is more than a LOT of GMs ever start with. He has had around 20 picks. Farmer has dug his own grave, this wasn't forced on him.
