I think if you look at the elite teams in this league, they have a few constants. All the elite teams in this league have a core that has played together for at least a few seasons, they all have good coaching and they all have a good point guard. Now I really like what Eric Snow brings us, he is easily the teams best defender and he always gives it 100%. I think he would be a perfect player to bring off the bench, kinda like what detroit does with lindsey hunter, who is really only out there for defense as well(in the past anyway).

As the trade deadline gets closer and closer, does anybody see a trade going down? Obviously our best trading chip is drew Gooden and i think if he can net us a very good point guard then trade him. However dont trade him just to trade him, as jim pax might have done if he was still our gm. I think if we wanna be elite sooner than later, we need to get a veteran good point guard. We cant afford to sit around and wait on a rookie pg from next years draft.

Next season. Just as long as we don't go through major changes during the off-season, but that'll make the process of becoming elite take even longer. Look at teams like Detroit and San Antonio. They have been so successful because they've kept the same group together for a long time. If we keep changing our team every year, we'll never win a title.

they are already elite, just wait for the playoffs, they are just coasting through the season like lakers and spurs do year in and year out... its just a matter or giving 200% come playoff time :king:

I feel that you are looking at one of the top 2 teams in the East next season. I feel that this year will net us 50 or so wins, a first round playoff win and some valuable experience when Detroit takes it to us in the second round, showing us what it takes to win in the playofs.

I do think that after the trade deadline, this team is going to take off (not because of trades, but because of the return of Larry Hughes).

The goals for this season, in my opinion, are to make the playoffs as the 4 seed, win a round, play Detroit competitive (that means win 2 games at home) and most importantly............

GET LEBRON TO SIGN THE EXTENSION THIS SUMMER!

Then, we'll be on our way to a decade of being a truly elite team not only in the East, but in the entire NBA.

Mike Brown has to do a better job of getting them to play to their strengths and avoid their weaknesses. Last night Z and Drew were dominating inside in the first half....after halftime it became a 3 point contest. With the exception of the last minute, we only got to the line 3 times in the second half. It's Mike Brown's responsibility to get them to stick to the game plan....he failed last night and we lost as a result.

When you have an Allstar Center and a physical specimen like Lebron James, there is no reason to constantly live and die by the 3 pointer. We did not get beat last night....we gave it away.

Our last 3 home losses-
Phil - 6 of 23 from 3 pt range
NY - 6 of 28 from 3 pt range
Hou - 7 of 29 from 3 pt range

Thats right baby!!!!!!!!!!! :chuckles:  Were hustling the entire league.

Maximus makes an excellent point here.....Mike Brown needs to grow as a coach and grow a pair and say hey STOP doing that and get the ball inside or whatever is working at the time....too many times we get away from what is working....granted that most of those shots were wide open they just were not falling so why not bang it inside for cryin out loud

Likely two more seasons, if your definition of elite is being a team ready to make it to the conference finals with some regularity. We've got some clutter we still have to shed from our roster, and some kids that need to develop more ,,,and about two more key additions, and one minor one,,, before we can get to that level. We need Varejao to get developed and consistent ...we need to lose our point guards and Snow's contract, and replace that with something of value at the position. Snow's expiring contract in a few years will provide an opportunity to get a needed piece. Gooden's expiring contract could net us another piece, the development of Martynas could be a key development ...and we should find a way to rid ourselves of Damon Jones in any way possible ...meaning take on a bad one year expiring contract for him just to get rid of him ...but, Lebron will grow into the best player in the league, Hughes is set as his right hand, Z is fine and looks better and younger physically than he did two years ago, Varajao is going to develop into one of the premier defensive PF in the league, and possibly a perennial league rebounding leader ...Donyell fills a role as a guy of the bench that can grab some boards and spread the floor ...he stays. I think Sasha sticks around and develops into the backup for both Hughes and James and will do it admirably. So, that leaves our remaining pieces being a couple point guards, and a strong backup center (which could eventually be MA) ...not too long a wait is needed, and just a little tinkering.

Absolutely gave it away last night. Last night was one of our worst games in terms of having a plan of attack that could have worked, and failing to execute it ....I put that at the feet of our coach last night ....but, he is a rookie coach, and he'll get better.
