Who is our starting quarterback in the 2013 opener?

If Brandon Weeden had the ability or talent of a guy like Andrew Luck, ya probably. I don't see why Kelly would waste any time adapting his offense around a 29 year old, very average, quarterback.

Just as likely as taking one of the shitty run oriented QBs who can't throw.

Nobody outside of Peyton Manning has the ability of Andrew Luck. Yet other teams still designed offenses around their QB's.

I'm curious to see what Joe Webb looks like tonight. I didn't realize he was likely to get the start because of a Ponder injury so it's coincidental I listed him. If he plays well, the league will take notice. Conditions will be difficult in Green Bay and I can't imagine his game is sharp right now. But he has crazy athletic ability and a rocket arm. He's pretty unheard of, but Minny thought he might be their guy until Ponder showed he can handle the load this year. Also, if the Browns do indeed bring over the personnel guy from Minnesota it'd be interesting to see if he makes a play for someone he's familiar with.
Ponder might be the one QB that played worse than Weeden this year... and he backs him up. He could be lightning in a bottle, though, I suppose.

Personally, I think Mike Vick is the greatest quarterback of all time.

I just don't get why people assume Kelly has to have a QB who can run. You really think that if he was handed Tom Brady or Peyton Manning that he wouldn't be able to adapt and craft an offense to suit them? He already helped the Hoodie tweak his offense. Kelly is known as an innovator. There's no doubt in my mind that he can figure out how to make it work. I highly doubt he even wants a QB running the ball all the time, this isn't college, the guy won't stay healthy.

I can't edit my post for some reason, but I'd just like to add that that doesn't necessarily mean Weeden is the guy. I just don't see them going out and brining in a substandard QB just because he can run.

I don't disagree with any of this. My point is he doesn't have Peyton or Brady so I assume he'll find someone who can run what he wants until they find their guy. The added benefit of a mobile QB is it helps his run game. You're right that he doesn't like to get his QB hit much, that's true even at the college level, but he utilizes the threat of a running QB to get his running backs more space. It's all about keeping the backside honest. Without a mobile QB, you won't be able to successfully run out of shotgun on a regular basis.

It's just that some of the names I've been hearing brought up aren't any better than Weeden. I'd rather give him a second year with a good coach and try to develop him than bring in Mike Vick, Vince Young, or Tim Tebow.

youre right weeden probably isnt peyton or brady, but that doesnt mean he cant be an above average QB. getting rid of weeden after 1 season is just absolutely asinine no matter how you cut it. he is a first round QB that a whole lot of 'fans' are willing to walk away from because he wasnt brady or manning his rookie season.

Getting rid of Weeden would be necessary...not asinine. Just like getting rid of Quinn was and possibly Colt may be.

You're neglecting the fact that he is 29. That's a HUGE factor. If he were 22 it'd be a different story.
