Everybody loves a winning QB. Especially if he is from the O, the S, to the U team....well "almost" everybody that is.
Which brings me to my next point: It seems that the people that love him MOST do it out of blind love because he played at OSU. And the people that hate him MOST do it because they hate OSU.
This brings me to my next point: The OSU system! OSU runs a "Run and Shoot" offense. An offense like that requires a lot of good receivers and a QB to fit the system like OJ's glove. That is where all of OSU's good receivers and Troy Smith come into play. Who in the nation has 4 good DBs to cover all those good receivers of OSU? Not many...or maybe NONE! This is evident already. PS- A "Run and Shoot" team need 8 good receivers. And they need speed too. There are a lot of 4-Receiver Plays in the "Run and Shoot".
So, my next point: Troy Smith needs the Run and Shoot system to be successful at the next level. So, if he were to come to the Current Browns, he would need at least 3 more good RECEIVERS. Right now we have BE, KW2, JJ. Possible receivers: Heiden, Wilson, Cribbs. We need more 'good and fast' receivers.
And my next point: If you want Troy Smith to play for the Browns, you have to do 4 things,
1. Draft Calvin Johnson.
2. Draft Troy Smith in the second (Trade up if needed to)
3. Draft another WR early
4. Draft another WR a little later.
Sounds like a lot of work? Kinda. But to me it sounds like a lot of luck is needed and many stars to align.
To my second to last point: Who in the NFL has the DBs to cover KW2, BE, Calvin Johnson, JJ. Then they all rotate in and out with Wilson, Heiden, Cribbs, and the 2 possible good rookie WRs. You would devastate other teams. I am a little surprised as to why NFL teams don’t use this system a lot. Although a system like this can only be run by such QBs as Troy Smith and Charlie Frye.
And the last point: You can't put Troy Smith in just any other system. If you want him to succeed in the NFL, he has to come to a system that suits him. Now this is just from watching games and confirming it with a friend that is a scout. But who knows, he may just become great without a specific system...well then you can forget about the "Run and Shoot" gentleman.
