Windy Interview on leaving for ESPN

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How was MYoung in any way being disrespectful?

Umm well he more or less took a shot at the posters in this thread by calling Windy just a "mid-market newspaper reporter", downplaying Windy's departure and suggesting he brought nothing more to the table than that bland job title.

The franchise tag thing alludes to the outcry of many of you Cavalier fans and media in the new 2011 (maybe) CBA for teams like the Cavaliers to be able to keep a max player and not allow the Heat to stock up on stars and create super teams ike the Knicks will when Carmelo bolts (and also possibly CP3). It's a fair proposal and will most certainly be brought up in the bargaining sessions, though I don't think it will pass.

Pretty much, seems like it is basically ESPN Miami they just call it the "Heat Index" and it covers...well, the Heat. Or at least that's what I think. Basically, he will be covering the Heat, hence why he is going to Miami.
Ugh...while he's entiltled to do whatever, going there is going to add to the displeasure of Cavs fan having to endure the Heat all season.
While I certainly don't regard him as a rat,he was right when he said once LeDrama leaves people will bolt..
And bolt they have..maybe we all take our talents to South Beach..ehhh more like South Park...

We are going to have to fasten our seatbelts and grab hold of our barf bags because ESPN is going to be all Miami Heat and LeBron this season. Windy will be a part of that circus, now. Still, his reporting will be missed. I hope the Plain Dealer makes a good decision about his replacement.

In the meantime, we will have to rely on Bob Finnan, Rick Noland and Jason Lloyd. Mary Schmitt Boyer...eh, not so much. I have high hopes for Jason Lloyd. Like what I have seen so far.

Ok, I think we read different posts.

If his goal is to further his career, this really isnt a hard decision for him. Newspapers are dying. Going to ESPN full time for the same money is the right move for him even if all other things are equal. I cant be mad at Windy for making decisions in his life simular to those that I made. I dont live in Cleveland area anymore, I took opportunity and income to move to a place with a better economy and better weather.

I just cant be mad at Windy for this decision by any means. Not even close to the same level as Lebron. And for anyone saying he is nuthugging Lebron, get real, he is making a career decision for himself and his family. No reason to be mad at a guy using this opportunity to further his career.

Well, Lee, I don't have a problem either way. People have the right to choose where they work and pursue what they want, whether that's leaving OR staying. I don't think Windhorst is a terrible person for abandoning his readership, his organization, his fans and doing it to stay attached to the #1 most hated guy in Cleveland - but let's be clear ... that is what he's doing. If Windy had some real leverage, he would have gotten a promotion to something above and beyond co-beat reporter.

I can understand why Windhorst would leave but from a Cavs fan perspective it sucks. It may be a step up for him financially and for exposure but don't see it as a step up journalistically.
I hate everything about the Heat and am hoping for their failure. I'll be trying to avoid the overblown hype fest over the Heat on ESPN so I likely won't be reading any Windhorst stories anytime soon. Who knows if we'll ever see him produce a real behind the scenes story and full explanation of all that went down last season and in the offseason now that he's followed Lebron to Miami and is working for a media outlet not exactly known for it's objectivity.

Once again the average fan loses. Finnan does a solid job, J. Lloyd shows some promise, but the PD coverage will take a huge step back and they're the ones who devote the most space and resources among local papers. Don't believe we will be getting as much info as we have been getting.

Again, understand why Windhorst made the move for his career and bank account but as a Cavs fan it's bad and I really don't like seeing him running after Lebron.

I hope a piano falls on his hands..

That's just not fair... if someone offers triple your salary for a new job in a conglomerate thriving company vs. your previous job and its dying business, which offer are you going to take?

Not just talking to you..but I love people randomly throwing out how Windy's pay got "doubled" or "tripled" or "quadrupled" ... :chuckles: As if they have any fucking clue.

I heavily doubt Windy made six-figures here, he's gonna be well over that now. Lebron's game check is approximately 180,000, Windy's salary probably wasn't even half that. Best of luck to him but I just hope he doesn't turn into another ESPN schill. He was always pretty candid in his observations about the Cavs, that better not change with those three asshats in Souff Beach.

As someone else alluded to, I'm still waiting for an explanation as to what exactly transpired this past Spring, as anyone who has been a paying customer of the Cavaliers franchise deserves one. It won't be coming from Windy now for sure.

Wow you're an a-hole. Is this your way of jealously downplaying Windy's great work he's served us with for 7 years? Go write another Chris Mihm story.

How does Jason Whitlock compare to Windy's situation at all? He was a writer with the Kansas City Star until about a month and a half ago after being there for 16 years, while doing work for ESPN and FS through the years. The only way they compare is in girth.

Regardless... to most of us, this loss hurts more than losing the piece of dirt in free agency. Windy was very much a fan like us, who despite his consistent journalistic integrity reported things that we fans wanted to hear on RCF chats, Twitter and Cleveland.com for quite some time. Though he rose to fame in the same way and timeframe that James did, Windy was thought to be one of us, a true and true fan deep down, and brought a refreshing rare perspective.

He's done an excellent job keeping fans on their toes and serving as a go-to be all end all for Cavaliers knowledge. Unfortunately those days are over now. I for one will miss Windy and will read his articles from time to time just as a reminder of what used to be as Branson Wright, Mary Schmitt Boyer, Bob Finnan, and Jason Lloyd all try to pick up the pieces. Good luck Windy, make that dough and enjoy Miami, you deserve it. :hail:

WTF are you talking about?

I still don't what the hell you're talking about.

Apparently, you don't the necessary reading comprehension skills to grasp sarcasm.

And yes, a franchise tag in the NBA is stupid.

No... I don't know what the hell you're talking about.

I don't have time to break down everything I said in my post... sorry. And I knew exactly the sarcasm you were hinting at and it lacked much bumbling sense... very much like the Moohead radio interviews with you I have heard in the past.

I'd like to just stay on topic and keep this good thread going as I did in my first post and not make this personal but that looks like it may be difficult with the one line WTF are you talking about.

he acted like he didnt know he was leaving, although I and most likely the rest of us already knew it.

...I hereby sentence you to no less than 4 years in a federal pound me in the ass prison.
