I'm not sure that these low scores are that often a result of "not caring"
I had a conversation with the starting point guard of my college (D-1 school that played in the tourney) when he returned from an away game in Rhode Island once that went like this:
Me: "Tough game yesterday, sorry about the loss."
PG: "Yeah we lost, but I learned something yesterday..."
Me: "What's that?"
PG: "Rhode Island is a state!"
Me: "C'mon you've got to be kidding."
PG: "What? Not everyone knows that... I always thought it was city in New England"
Me: "Rob, New England isn't a state its an area in Massachusetts."
That was an actual exchange I shared. A lot of these guys are real gifted athletes and nice people, but not necessarily always the brightest. I dont want to generalize... I've met plenty of extremely bright guys. But there will always be people who let their skill in a given sport get them by over the years.
