And we're only in the first half.

2 for Eddie Royal (one kickoff, one punt), and 1 for Darren Sproles (punt return).

Nice blocking, or just terrible coverage?

the sproles return was just a display of his pure speed. He hit the hole by the sideline and just shot off toward the endzone. It looked like pretty good coverage too, sproles is just too fast.
as for royal's td's, it just looked like bad coverage, especially on the second touchdown. All the SD players looked sluggish trying to tackle/catch up to him.
I wonder what the record for return td's in a game is...

They said this is only the eighth time in NFL history that each team has returned a punt for a TD. As for the record, I'm not sure, but they've gotta be getting close.

I agree with what you said though. The SD special teams coverage has looked out of sync tonight, but Darren Sproles is just lightning quick and able to slip through the tiniest of holes that open up.

The key to a good return is making a decision and just going balls to the wall, if you ever watch Cribbs he doesn't try reversing field or getting cute like some guys. He just jogs up surveys the field, finds the best possible route and then takes off like a bat outta hell. 1 cut and go.

Same thing with Sproles and Royal tonight.

In other news, the chargers sucked tonight. Waste of time. At least the food was good.

^ They're like the Panthers from a few years ago, all the talent in the world but they never capitalize on it. The line completely shit the bed, give Rivers time to throw and he'll make plays. Tomlinson isn't the same LT but he didn't have too many holes to run through.

Merriman isn't Lights Out since the surgery, and their Special Teams blew major tonight. How many prime time games do they get? Seems like you see em lose on ESPN at least once a week.

I was completely disgusted with their play tonight, especially in the second half. That offensive line allowed Rivers to be sacked FIVE TIMES. I understand that they are without their starting center, but come on. It felt like he was hurried every other play.

The special teams coverage was also crap. Not to take away from Royal, because he was outstanding on returns tonight, but the coverage looked like crap.

All in all a very disappointing loss. At the rate they're playing, it looks like they'll have to fight for that wild card if they want to play in the postseason at all.

They've played MNF twice (season opener against the Raiders, as well) and Sunday night once (lost to Shittsburgh). 1-2 in the prime time. And with the way they played in their season opener, they could easily be 0-3 in prime time this year instead.

Merriman just isn't the same, he definitely looks to have lost a step. LT isn't the same, but it's a lot harder to be a successful running back when your line tonight looks almost as bad as the Browns' or Packers' (I'm referring more specifically to the right side of the line; otherwise they have Pro-Bowlers in McNeill, Dielman, and Hardwick on the left side and center).

All in all, Rivers has been sacked 15 times this year. 5 of them came tonight.

They will not be playing in the postseason.

They've started slow before and managed to make it (such as last year). I'm not so confident about this year though, because the AFC West actually seems to be looking up a little bit this year. Oakland is certainly looking more respectable (and probably should have won that season opener), Denver is going crazy, even Kansas City hasn't been as bad as they usually are.

Well, okay... the last line was a joke. But Oakland and Denver look better IMO.

Seems to me the Chargers are wasting their time with Norv Turner. This guy's had a few Head coaching jobs and his teams always play uninspired. He's lucky the talent on that team makes him look good most times. I think Marty would have already challenged for a Superbowl by now.

Pshhhhht. Don't let Oakland fool you. I don't know what the Eagles were doing defensively. Our WR's were targeted 9 times & ended up with 2 receptions for 6 yards. Through 5 weeks, every team doubled J.R's favorite target, his tight end Miller, but the Eagles choose not to. He finished the game with 6 rec, 139 yards, 1 TD. It's really sad when your fullback has more receiving yards than your wide receivers combined for the game. :(

I was very impressed with Orton tonight. The touchdown pass with 3 mins. to go gave me a win in fantasy by 3 pts. Swee:king:t

Marty is a great regular season coach. Postseason? Not so much. That's why they got rid of him. Norv Turner is just a moron.

Haha don't feel bad, I think Mike Tolbert (our FB) had more receiving yards on a couple of screen passes than every other receiver not named Vincent Jackson tonight.

EDIT: Never mind that last statement, but he still had 40 yards. Jackson had 46 by comparison. Crazy.

Denver will win the Division, and there are teams that are much better on the defensive side of the ball that will take the Wild Cards. JMHO. I hope they get it together. With Willliams out at DT and Merriman looking like Tila Tequila out there, everything looks out of rhythm. Oh, and don't get me started on the "tackling."
